This game was good for Elliott. It will make them better and get them prepared for Mason, Anderson and the Regional and hopefully the State Tournament. Sometimes a loss only makes a team better. Good job Elliott, proud of you guys for holding your own.

I was very impressed by Elliot County. They obviously had an off night shooting and most of the shots that they missed early were open looks. The Lions out rebounded the much larger Cedar Hill team and played very evenly aside from their cold outside shooting. When a team can play their worst game of the season and stay within 10 of a team having four D1 recruits, they are obviously capable of beating anybody in the state on a given night.

I'd add Holmes, J'town, Manual, and Shelby Valley to that list as well...

 

I would leave Manual off the list....they just got beat pertty good by Hazard.

 

Really wanted the boys from Elliott Co to win this one. Learn from this experience and will only make them stronger come post season. Just like many others....wish they played some more top teams across the state of Ky.

Man...Talk about a good basketball team...Elliott Co...Showed me alot in this game...As bad as they shot from three land and still in the game in the last two minutes...

 

They did not miss those shots because of the Cedar Hill Defense...Those shots were open shots...

 

Gee same song different year. This is what I heard last year when CovCath beat them at LexCath, it wasn't the other teams "D" it was just an off night. It seems funny, that whenever EC plays a good team, they have a off night shooting the ball....

 

I love watching EC play as they play hard and tough but it just seems that some won't accept that if EC they played a tougher schedule, they wouldn't be averaging anywhere near 100 points a game!

When your game is so dependent on three point shooting and you have such a bad shooting night and are still in the game with about a minute and a half left in the game, well my hats off to them. The broadcast crew that covered the game had nothing but very good things to say about the Lions. I would like to know what Ky team has bigger more physical inside players than Cider Hill? Elliott County will be a force to be reckoned with in the sweet sixteen, after watching this game I am sure that no coach will over the quality of team that the Lions are. Congrats Lions!:banana:

Wonder who this said "some" is? I think a lot of people can't stand that Elliott is scoring 100plus a game because their team isn't. Granted, anyone that knows ball knows Elliott is not in a tough region and that if they were(or anyone for that matter) in the "toughest" region, it stands to reason that scores would be lower. But good job, try to run your barb in deeper next time, ok

The fact is Elliott County lost. Period. Good thing I didn't act on the advice of some of these EC partisans. I would have to thumb back home.

 

Cedar Hill is far from being the best team in this tournament.

I think Holmes,Scott Co.and Elliott Co. are the best teams in the state right now...

 

Elliott has to be the favorite for the All A title...

The only way I see them winning the sweet 16 is if they are knocking down the 3s...

 

They remind me of the early UK Pitino teams...Live by the three die by the three...I like there chances...Those boys can flat out shoot...They won't have many cold shooting games...:thumb:

They would have been easily beaten by several 7th region teams the way they played. And yes, I watched the whole game! Texas team kept throwing it away when they had the chance to put this one away early!

 

I will give the kids credit because they never quit even when the shots weren't falling.

Theoldguy isn't a Holmes fan. Holmes is loaded, though.

 

Honestly, I know very little about Elliott County other than the hype they receive on here. There's no doubt about it that their scoring average is impressive; however, you cannot deny the fact that they have not played tough competition.

1st quarter:

 

First few minutes were back and forth before Holmes went on an 8-0 run to take a 19-11 lead after Seneca tied the game at 11. Run was highlighted by a dunk by Pittman. He got the ball on the baseline on one side of the rim, drove, and tomahawked it down one handed while under the rim. The kid's wing span is unreal. His hand was out past the backboard and he still managed to throw it down with authority. At the end of one Holmes led 20-17 after Seneca hit 2 three's to bring it closer.

 

Second quarter:

Back and forth again with neither team leading by more than 3. Was highlighted by a Brandon Housely dunk. He got the ball on the block, took two steps, rose up and dunked two handed over a Seneca player while also getting the foul. Ricardo Johnson didn't play at all in the second quarter due to foul trouble. At the half it was tied 37-37.

 

Third Quarter:

Holmes first four points came on back to back dunks in less than a minute by JJ and Pittman. First dunk JJ got a steal went down and dunked over two defenders. Next possession for Seneca, Holmes got a long rebound and Riley hit Pittman ahead of everyone as he dunked two handed from probably five feet in front of the free throw line. Got a lot of "ohhhs and ahhhs" out of the crowd. Seneca would settle in though and go on to hit 4 straight 3's to take a 51-48 lead. Down 3, Rico took over. Next play down, he drove the lane and made a nice acrobatic shot to get the and one and tie the score at 51. Pittman then came down a few plays later and got his third dunk of the game on a drive and dish from Riley. Third quarter ended with Holmes up 1, 56-55. Seneca hit SEVEN three's in the 3rd quarter to keep the game close.

 

Fourth Quarter:

First play of the fourth quarter, Rico got the ball on the wing, took his man (#50) off the dribble and dunked over him and another Seneca player. Holmes would then stretch their lead out to 63-55 before Seneca hit their 8th three of the second half to close within 5. Fourth was highlighted by a runout by Maddox of Seneca, who went up for a dunk and had it denied and pinned against the backboard by Pittman. Ref called it a goaltend and was probably a bad call, as everyone in the gym agreed. That closed the game to 63-60. Holmes would then go on a 9-0 run, highlighted by ANOTHER Pittman dunk and one. With Holmes up 72-62, Seneca came down and hit their NINTH 3 pointer of the second half to close within 7. Next play down, Riley threw and alley oop dunk to Pittman, who threw it down hard two handed and that was all she wrote.

 

Game changing moment was when Holmes was up 65-60 in the fourth and Riley got fouled and then the same Seneca player called for the foul, got T'd up for foul language. Riley hit two of 4 free throws to push the lead to 7 and the ball, and next play Pittman dunked and got the and one to put them up 69-60.

 

Altogether Holmes had SEVEN dunks in this one...with 4 coming from Pittman. Seneca has a very nice team though. They shot lights out from outside which was probably the biggest reason the game was close as it was. If a team can get hot from outside, they'll be able to play with Holmes. (Seneca, Bryan Station) Holmes has to play better perimeter defense and make their free throws. Not exactly sure what they shot, but I'm pretty sure their FT % was horrible.

 

All in all a solid win. They should coast through the rest of the tournament.
