One thing I noticed from Elliott County's big man Knipp. He would not be bringing the ball down the floor or shooting the three when he is my big man on the floor. He would be running the back baseline keeping their defense honest and freeing up my three point shooters. Not outside shooting the three,when I got 3 division 1 guards that can shoot it.

Those are good observations...although that kid is very talented with the ball for his size...Especially just being a sophomore...:thumb:

I agree. He's only a sophomore though so I'm sure that will get better over time. Holmes has the same problem with 6'6 Arnold trying to shoot three's and dribble when his strengths are inside around the rim because of his size.

 

Knipp will get better as the season goes on though.

How about on defense ? Does anybody think they would have had a better chance playing a packed in zone and making them beat Elliott from the outside. I think they were overmatched in a couple of matchups. What does everyone else think about a zone? No adjustments made as game progressed.

Cedar Hill's size and athleticism would have killed EC on the offensive glass had they went to a zone. They had a good game plan. Just didn't knock down enough shots to win.

I think EC's biggest problem is their reliance on the 3 ball. When the shots weren't falling, they should have gone to a different game plan and tried drawing fouls on the bigger team by getting in the lane.

 

The Faulkners did a nice job of that during the comeback.

They went Zone and it worked better than man to man from what I saw.

Actually I believe Duncanville is #1 in Texas according to several sites...CH is top 5 for their class...not the whole state.

That is the whole idea of playing zone so they can help each other out and get a body on someone to box them out. Most of Cedar's points came within 3-4' feet of basket.I know that is easy to say now.I would have to have tried it. I know once they got way behind ,it had to stay man-man defense. Like someone said ,this game will only make them better.I think if they hit half those shots ,it is Different game. The better team won today. However Elliott can play with these guys. Cedar was well coached.

I watched the whole game and thought the officiating wasn't that great.

I noticed two goal tending calls should have been made, plus one pass Eathan Faulkner threw was clearly off the TX team and the ref called it off EC.

A few call's more going EC's way and had they knocked down some of the buckets, this game would have been much closer.

I really think EC should have won this game, came out very cold and could't hit the broadside of a barn.

I was very impressed by Elliot County. They obviously had an off night shooting and most of the shots that they missed early were open looks. The Lions out rebounded the much larger Cedar Hill team and played very evenly aside from their cold outside shooting. When a team can play their worst game of the season and stay within 10 of a team having four D1 recruits, they are obviously capable of beating anybody in the state on a given night.

 

They have 4 recruits that should end up in the mid to low major D1 level. From what I knew of them before today the Glover kid was their best player, and he's going to Utah. After watching the Gipson kid, I'd say there is also likely one high major on the team to go with the other 4 as well.

 

Good showing for Elliott given how poor they shot the ball, but they just didn't have enough in the paint to overcome it...

This team they were playing was no joke and was very big inside. They did kill Elliot inside but Elliot actually out rebounded them 39 to 36. I know Elliot depends on the 3 point shot a lot but there will not be another game this season where they shoot 13% from the 3 point line. Some of it may of had to do with the other teams defense but Elliot simply missed shots they normally make and will make the majority of the time. I have seen Holmes play Scott Co. this season and I came away very impressed with Holmes. But I am going to predict right now that Elliot Co. will cut down the nets in Rupp, they simply just want it more than anybody. You have to love how they play the game and staying with a team that much bigger than them while shooting so bad was very very impressive. Saying that they want it more than anybody might be a bit disrespectful to the other teams around the state. Isn't that what they all work for? A State title? Elliott has a nice team, no doubt, but it takes more than just wanting it for it to happen.....

Not meaning any disrespect to any teams just saying nobody plays as hard as Elliot Co. I compare the way they play to Tyler Hansbrough, its a fact that he plays harder than anybody. Elliots core players are also seniors and you can't tell me that even though everybody wants it, your senior year you want it a little bit more. Just stating my opinion i could be wrong but again I think Elliot will cut the nets down in Rupp.
