January 4, 200917 yr If rockets were hitting Texas from Mexico what would we do? It is about time Israel attacks these radicals. In war people die. The days of WW2 are over. These cowards dress like normal civilians which makes them harder to identify, hide weapons in civilian homes and neighborhoods and use women and children as shields. Israel has the right to protect herself. I just hope they finish the job. :thumb:
January 4, 200917 yr I understand, but in my mind it's kinda like trying to distinguish between crimes and "hate" crimes... murder is still murder and should be punished equally regardless of the degree of "hate" involved. War is war, regardless of the cause, when it comes to fighting, people dying and one side trying to wipe out the other, all wars are essentially ethnic wars. If you read this thread you will find comments from all sides of this issue basically affirming that there seems to be no end to the violence. I agree. That’s why the only solution that seems to buy time is the threat of overwhelming force. Israel is too small to get into the whole tit-for-tat thing. If they are assaulted, they should respond with overwhelming force to such a degree that their antagonists think twice, three times, and then again before picking new fights. Crazy as it sounds, Israel is basically a peaceful nation… in that, they do not go around looking for new skirmishes to initiate. They can’t afford to. Virtually every conflict they’ve had over the past 40 years or more were started by others. They simply can’t just sit back and absorb assaults if they are to survive. Maybe you did not imply sympathy for the Hamas terrorists, but others do. I'm weary of hearing about how those mean old Israelis just won't be fair when Israel is surrounded by millions of "ethnic" enemies sworn to their destruction and idiots like Hamas won't stop provoking them. War is a nasty thing. It's too bad the innocent civilians can't access the truth about the fools on their side of the issue who insist upon lobbing bombs at Israel. I’m sure their press colors it all against Israel. No matter how precise Israel may be in their responses, their enemies are not above dragging in every corpse that passed away by natural causes over the previous week and littering them about for media photo ops. Until the surrounding Arab states boot out the clowns on their side that keep the fight going, overwhelming force is Israel’s only practical option. Actually, that is how I read your comment, but I am guilty of not believing what I read. So, I will admit to being guilty as charged on this point. :thumb:  Isn't that a song by Dewey Cox on Walk Hard?
January 5, 200917 yr I read a piece today that stated that if Israel doesn't wipe out Hamas and eventually leaves then Hamas will be legitimized which will be even worse than it is now.
January 5, 200917 yr I agree it shows restraint, but wouldn't the same be true at even a third that total rocket attacks? I've been doing a lot of research on this, and I really question, given the relative harmlessness of the Hamas attacks, whether Israel would be doing this now, if it weren't for the political implications present today that weren't previously. Harmlessness? Rockets are far from harmless. The existence of Israel is at stake here. Hamas is nothing but a front for Iran and Syria to wage war on Israel. The rockets, money and training all come from Iran and Syria.

January 5, 200917 yr Israel must kill them all. PERIOD. All the babies, children, old women and men? People living there for no other reason than it is their home?
January 5, 200917 yr Historically speaking, how often has that really produced a lasting peace anywhere? Violence, particularly violence that is indiscriminate, begats more violence. Particularly when the count is probably closer to 5 to 1 casualties for the Palestinians vs. the Israelis. In this case Israel has seemingly attempted and targeting the places where they feel the terrorist activity is perpetrated or supported. Violence has produced lasting peace in many instances. Germany and Japan are obvious examples. The allies soundly defeated both countries and the citizens of Germany and Japan accepted defeat and began working with us to build a more peaceful future. The problem in the Middle East is that we have imposed an artificial stalemate on two warring parties by demanding a halt to hostilities before there is a winner and a loser in the conflict. There will never be lasting peace as long as the Palestinian people believe that violence is working because so far they are right. Israel, at our urging, has surrendered land for an elusive peace.
January 5, 200917 yr All the babies, children, old women and men? People living there for no other reason than it is their home?To Hamas and other like organization, every Palestinian man, woman, and child is a potential suicide bomber. A majority of Palestinians living in Gaza chose to turn over control of their government to Hamas. They are not merely innocent civilian victims.
January 5, 200917 yr I said relative harmlessness. Rockets versus airstrikes...relativity here. So as long as I shoot rockets into your house you will be ok with it.
January 5, 200917 yr I said relative harmlessness. Rockets versus airstrikes...relativity here. The Israeli airstrikes target Hamas. The terrorists lob rockets over the border not caring who gets hit. They also walk into malls, stores and political buildings with explosives strapped to their body killing anything within range. The Israeli response is appropiate.

One of the big reasons "restraint" on the part of Israel does not work is because when Israel does show "restraint" Hamas uses it to beat their drum to their followers saying see, Israel is "weak". I would like a diplomatic and peaceful solution, but IMO the Arab community is not willing to budge enough to even come close to meeting the Israeli community near halfway. The Arabs want a 95/5 compromise. That is just not going to happen, nor should it. I am not sure how you "negotiate" with people who are unwilling to compromise...

With what the Israelis are calling "Operation Cast Lead." Sling lead until they stop.
January 7, 200917 yr Keep in mind that Palestinian Muslims & Christians and Israeli Jews work side by side daily in Jerusalem with zero problems whatsoever.
