Dyer County, from Memphis, Tennessee entered the matchup undefeated and was coming off a 32-3 season last year.

 

McCreary jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead, but Dyer came back with nine unanswered. Dyer is a very athletic and quick team. Their guards caused trouble for McCreary, which never could seem to get into the flow. Dyer's coach seemed a little angry at the refs at the start and let one of them have an earful. However, at half with McCreary down 46-26 on some crazy calls, to say the least, the second half opened with Dyer driving to their own basket. The shot was missed and McCreary rebounded in a mess and started heading off one way until Dyer's big, who was lying on the ground, pulled down Watts under the basket intentionally, and no call. Watts got up, pushed off and said something and was given a technical foul by the same ref that received the verbal assault by Dyer's coach. Then, Jones jumped up for McCreary and ran to mid court to state his point, and was given a technical by the same ref. After a full time out by Jones, who used the entire time out to give an earful to the ref, the game resumed. Back and forth, until Dyer started from the Raiders end of the floor and headed to theirs whenever an assistant coach yelled something from McCreary's bench. Apparently, the ref thought it was Jones; t'd him up, and threw him out. Jones had to be restrained by one ref while Dyer was stepping to the line. Then, as the game continued, Shrock for McCreary blocked a shot out of bounds, and apparently said something. The same ref responsible for the first three technicals, t'd him up and Dyer went back to the line to add to their total.

 

Then, as Dyer was setting up a play, one of their playes fell at right about the of the basket, while Watts stood directly in the center of the lane. As the Dyer player started to stand up, alone at that, Watts was called for his fourth foul. To say that McCreary Central's fans were hostile after that would be an understatement. The game basically evened out after that and finally finished.

 

Trust me. I'm not making an excuse for the loss, because a loss is a loss if it's by 1 point or fifty points. But Dyer County is not 21 points better than McCreary...

 

And I am very proud of the Raiders and how they continued on with this fiasco.

I saw the Whole Tournement and it seems the only games McCreary could win were the ones which the foul count was doubled that of there oppenent

 

Against Dixie Heights in the Second half the Foul count was 13 to 2 in McCreary's favor

 

Seems to be a little Ackward that when Good officials Ref their games like in the finals tonight they dont know who to react other then to act obseen

That statement is ridiculous!! I guess the Raiders have enjoyed all but 2 of their games being called by "BAD" officials. The Raiders are a quality team and should be respected. The Dyer Co. team was actually the ones that were acting "obseen". From tip of the game they were in Watts face talking trash and jawing. I don't care what sport or game in school sports it is uncalled for and shouldn't be tolerated. I am very proud of Watts for being as cool as he remained, because he took a lot more than most kids would have. I am also glad he stood his ground against those guys.

 

Going into the game I thought we had a shot if we could have contained Pierce #24 and keep him under 20 pts. Obviously we didn't get it done. I would have liked to see them go to a box and chaser and make the rest of the DC team beat us.

 

This is a good learning experience and the Raiders will be better because of it. Hopefully the Raiders will bounce back and have a good showing in the Lexington Catholic Tourney this weekend. Go Raiders!!!!!!

No, if it is given to the bench this is an indirect Techical which he is allowed 3 indirects or 2 direct technicals before being removed.
