16 Teams to State Tournament at Applebee's???

Featured Replies

Does anyone know when and if this will happen?? I have heard a lot of talk about this becoming a reality this year. Just wondering are they going to vote on it or when they plan on talking about it.

I don't think it will be discussed for 2009. Afterwards, maybe

Currently being discussed for the 2009-2010 season.

I believe it gets voted on this week. Maybe the 18th. Would be better than the way we have it now, but I believe I would still like a three or four class system even better.

Be interested, in seeing the thoughts and outcome, of this. I recall the 4 team Sectionals and then, Final Four days.

Why is this something that could not be accomplished in time for the upcoming season?

Already scheduled. Dates at Applebee's have already been reserved (and the Legends schedule is made) and therefore might be difficult.

Strike, that hasn't been that long ago!

I'm interested in how a schedule for a 16-team state tournament would look. Maybe something like this:

Monday

First Round Games @ 10, 1, 4 and 7

Tuesday

First Round Games @ 10, 1, 4 and 7

Wednesday

Quarterfinals @ 10, 1, 4 and 7

Thursday

No Scheduled Games - Weather Makeup

Friday

Semifinals @ 4 and 7

Saturday

Championship @ 7

Rain would throw the tournament schedule into a tizzy. Plus, how many teams in this state have the pitching depth to play a 16-team tournament in one week?

:thumb: Yep,, that was going to be my point. Pitching rules would affect this type of format

Okay, but if I'm reading the schedules correctly, it looks like Semi-state is scheduled right now for June 3-5. Legends are away June 2-4 and back home on June 5. So moved up semi-state dates one day and it's at least theoretically possible.

Another interesting possibility - use Florence Freedom for semi-state. They're supposed to be installing field turf this winter, so it would help cut down on potential rainout issues. Of course, it would also require more travel for some teams. Great park, though.

Legislation enacted by the KHSAA usually cannot be for a current season. Almost always legislation and votes (ala the vote to seed or not to seed a district) are for the succeeding season. My guess is it is so to avoid votes that will favor a particular team or district immediately. Also, the format and scheduling of district level competition would be impossible to accomplish this late in the game. The discussion is about a 3 or 4 class system with final 4's for each class at Applebees. Very doable, just not this quickly.

Two or three classes would be enough for every sport except football.

This is something that some are trying to get done for this Spring. AppleBee's Park has already been reserved for the week long 16 team single elimination tournament. The khsaa is trying to pace this as fast as possible to try to satisfy the Coaches that want a class system.

Some Coaches are meeting with the Khsaa this week to try to push a class sytem.
