Fugate is the best all around player in the state. He was a good kicker. He was a great runner and receiver, and a very good defensive player. He might not be the biggest talent but being at a smaller school allows him to show off alot more skills than most.

Winning one game against Male doesn't make them part of that club. I'd come closer to putting Manual in that threesome than Central.

I agree with the first part of that statement. Winning one game against Male doesn't make you a part of that club... But winning Back 2 Back State Championship does! There are not many teams walking around with rings on.

 

The other part I totally disagree with. Central played Manual without King or Robinson and lost by less than 6. I have a question.. How many championships do they have over at Manual??:confused:

I would disagree. I think Calloway County's Tyrrell Willis (6-3, 245) is a little better than Fugate, and he is also a junior.

Not only that but he will develop the abilities to change directions in mid-air, pass to himself, hand the ball off to himself and block for himself. In fact he will be the Breathitt County Bobcats next season and the rest of the team can take the time off. :walk:

Then there is Male, Central, and Manual...right now it seems those three teams are very comparable. Obviously, Central benefits from playing in Class 3A, so they have a much better opportunity to win rings.

What's with Fugate's uniform, it looks like a practice uni with just the number. Did he pull a Earl Campbell with a tear away earlier in the season?

 

It is a practice jersey. He doesn't like the game jersey. He wore it one time and said it was too tight that he couldn't breathe in it...and changed into the practice jersey at halftime.

Hey Wolf I know we haven't agreed on nothing yet but I will be man to agree with you on this one. Jade has had alot of build up that he can't live up to.

 

Two points here...

 

1. Because he is Justin Haddix's younger brother and he plays QB, everybody "expected" Jade to be just like his brother. How many players in KY High School football history have produced over 4000 yards passing and 58 TD's...over 1000 yards rushing and somewhere around 15-20 TD's...and a few interceptions and a defensive TD or two...in one season? It's unrealistic to expect that, because the answer to that question is one. Justin Haddix. We may never see another statistical season like the one he produced as a senior at Breathitt High. However...

 

2. ...people tend to forget that Justin Haddix was not a great player until his senior season. I don't know his exact stats as a junior, but his Completion Percentage and TD/Int ratio was not that great. In addition, in his junior year, Breathitt County finished 7-5 with a second round playoff loss to Belfry on their homefield in Jackson, after building a 26-7 lead in the second half, Belfry rallied to win...and a costly interception or two really helpd their cause.

 

So, I'd like to remind anyone and everyone who thinks Breathitt County needs a new or better QB, that they've got the QB they need right now. Does he have room for improvement? Absolutely...just like every other Bobcat that isn't graduating this year...and just like his older brother after his junior year. Why don't we give the kid a chance to work this off-season and improve on a what was a pretty good season for a first year starter?

 

And, just to make this point clear...just like his brother, Jade's first year as the starting QB at Breathitt High was his junior season. Just like his brother, he had a solid but not great season, that did not live up to some unrealistic hype and expectations, IMO. Any differences? Just one that I can think of...Justin's junior season ended with a 7-5 record and a second round loss in the playoffs. Jade's ended with a 12-3 record and a state runner-up trophy.

 

Breathitt will be fine next season. Jade Haddix will be fine next season. He will work hard this off-season and be a better football player next year.

I guess by that logic, Breathitt should have made a QB switch after Justin Haddix's junior season. Obviously, a 7-5 record and second round playoff exit ain't gettin' it done if a state runner-up trophy doesn't cut it...right? :sssh:

I just want to share something I read in the C-J this morning about Central's Hughes. I think it's something that needs reading, and I have an unlimited amount of admiration and respect for this young man's committment and courage.
