You and I both know that the Rocks aren't down this year. Simon Kenton has to be a huge, and I mean huge, underdog. I hope they don't get blown out, but even if they do, their success this year can give them something to build upon. I always thought that with open enrollment it would be Dixie of all the schools in Kenton County that could take advantage of open enrollment and build a powerhouse progam. I don't want to get into why that hasn't happened and hope we don't jack this thread into why it hasn't happened, but if Simon Kenton can take advantage of the door being left open in Kenton County and use their success this year to build upon, we just may be seeing the origin of a powerhouse football program at Simon Kenton. Unlike Ryle, which got beat in the state game a couple of years ago, with Simpson only being a junior and with all the other talent in the junior and sophomore class, the Pioneers should be very, very good again next year (probably better than this year). The Pioneers have lost a lot of great football players over the years to various schools (including Highlands). If Marksberry can keep them in Independence and draw other good football players from throughout Kenton County, I think it will happen. Go Pioneers!

Lot of talk in the 6A thread from some of the NKY faithful about how much Simon Kenton has improved over the past few years and is poised to dethrone Trinity? Many NKY fans opine that this will be a close game and could go either way. Can/did this SK team compete with the perennial powers from NKY? Perhaps this is the best NKY 6A team since 1994. I haven't seen them play so thanks for the input.

No one is saying that Simon Kenton is a better team than Trinity, or a better program. No one says they are the favorite, and no one expects SK to blow Trinity out. That being said, SK certainly has a chance to win the game, and we NKY folks are going to cheer them on.

Thanks. That tells me that SK has markedly improved in the past few years, and this isn't your typical NKY 6A team. Sounds like this may be a good game then.

No - Having said that , anything can happen in any given game. A SK win over T would be huge, but not impossible. I give the edge to T cause of home field advantage.

And like I said, the best team doesn't always win. See your team's victory over X last week (or, if you see it differently, then see X's victory over you earlier this season). Those people voted the "SK would win the game" NOT that SK is a better team, program, or the best in NKY.

 

To be honest, I have never been to an SK football game. I have no idea how the game will turn out. I just think that you are overreacting to us NKY people supporting a team from our area.

I'm all for supporting your area schools. I'm pulling for Central this weekend against Breathitt.

 

I'm just trying to get a gauge on how good this SK team is. I understand the mantras of anyone can get beat on any given day, etc. In years past Trinity could've scored 80 on SK. It seems, based on the posters, that SK has markedly improved, and I'm trying to ascertain how much so. The adulation from NKY is expected and commended, but one needs to discern how much is Regionalism.

Simon Kenton has had a great run and has really improved recently, but lets be realistic, HHS is the class of NKY. I hope the Pioneers have a good showing but Trinity wins this one going away IMO.

They may just have the best player in NKY but this is the same team that had to squeek one out against Camel county late in the season to get the 4th seed in a very average NKY 6a district. They have had a wonderful run, I just can't see them matching up against the football machine that is T. I think it will be very similar result as when Ryle made it a few years ago.

Thats not true at all, I voted for SK because I want them to win, and I think they can. I in no way shape or form think they are the favorite or that they will win, I just think it will be a good game and that SK has a chance to win it if they play a great game. Thats it with me, and I am sure 90% of people think the same way I do. Trinity is far and beyond the superior team, but I have seen crazier things happen and I am voting for a change. :thumb:
