Holmes @ Newport Predictions (12/9)

Featured Replies

Holmes is coming off a tough loss to Bryan Station.

Newport is coming off a 30 point W over Villa.

I'm interested in seeing how the Newport players and fans react to Housely coming back and playing against his former team.

Thoughts?

I think Newport has a very competitive ball club, but Holmes is much better. I predict a close game in the first half, but then the Bulldogs will take off after the half. Many Newport students are going to this game and I expect the same for Holmes.

I take it the reason for this is because of Housley's return to play against his former teammates?

I think this will be a track meet. I think Holmes will be hungry but it will be an offensive shootout that is for sure.

Now you know I pretty much ALWAYS agree with you Q, but Really? You think Newport will score that much? I don't see Newport scoring in the 70's or keeping this one close. Holmes won 66-39 last year and Newport returns the same squad from last year minus Housely. Newport just doesn't have the athletes like Holmes does. And you have to think Holmes will come out fired up with a lot of intensity after the loss Friday and the hell that Henley is putting them through this week end in practice.

I say something like this:

Holmes 74

Newport 51

I disagree bro. I think they revert and play street ball. I am guessing you will see atleast 6 dunks in this one. Henley will take the win but chew em out for not playing the defense he will be preaching these next couple days. Lets see how it plays out.

All by Holmes, right? ;)

In all seriousness, I just don't think Newport has the size to stop either Johnson Brothers or Pittman down low. Riley will put on a shooting clinic and I'm sure Housely throws down atleast one and will have around 10-15 points.

But guess we'll just see how it plays out like you said.

Newport just doesn't have the talent or athletes to match up with Holmes.

Holmes 77

Newport 53

I like Holmes by 12. HOLMES 72, NEWPORT 60

Newport has some talent but the biggest problem I see is rotation. Coach Russell is a good coach but hasn't always had a bench to rotate players in and out. From looking at their roster I just don't see a lot of players that they can roatate in and out which can make for a long night playing a fast pace offense that they need to run with Holmes.

What does Newport's starting lineup look like this year? Height and position?

McDaniel- 6'4

Darnell- 6'5

Collins- 6'2

Luther- ??

Greene-??

I am guessing these are the starters.

Holmes 84-68

I'll take Holmes by 30. The bulldogs will be motivated after their loss in Lexington. Newport returns a lot, but none of them are good enough to see minutes on the Holmes roster. I also feel there is a major difference in the coaching of the teams. Newport often falls into a street ball offense, while Holmes is more organized and picks spots to attack. I look for Housley to put up 15 on the Wildcats in a 82-52 win.
