Holmes @ Newport Predictions (12/9)

I would say that Mcdaniel vs R. Johnson is a bigger mismatch. Luther is very athletic, and Pittman should have a field day with Darnell.

I agree but JJ's size will give Luther fits both offensively and defensively.

Holmes by 15, close first half but Holmes pulls away...

I agree. Newport has done that for years and that's the reason they haven't been very successful IMO.

I agree - it seems like Newport either doesn't stay with their game plan or gets to a point were it becomes a street ball game.

I agree but only as far as guards go. Inside, Holmes will have a significant height advantage with the Johnson Brothers and Pittman.

One thing I see as a problem for Newport inside is that Darnell is not a dominate figure in the paint. He in the past was not agressive and it all falls on McDaniels shoulders to do all the work under the basket.

Well against Pittman I don't really see either being a factor in the game. But then again there probably won't be too many in nky that can match up with Pittman anyways. Him growing 3 inches over the summer to 6'7 has really helped him down low. You'll see what I'm talking about tomorrow night.

If a shot goes up down low, they better go up strong or it will be put in the bleachers.

Holmes by 15, close first half but Holmes pulls away...

I'm gonna have to agree with this one as well as Newport will come out tough in the first half especially with Housley warming up on the other side of the court.

I dont see this one being close at all. Holmes should be up by 15 at half should win this one by about 25. To much athleticism from Covington and with Housley being at Holmes look for him to have a huge game going back to Newport. With the outcome of last year and Newport losing their best player, it going to get ugly. I think Henley has lit a spark under his players butt and too bad for Newport they are the first victim. Holmes better start get things rolling before next Sunday.

Obviously, Holmes is a huge favorite in this game, as they have handled Newport pretty easily in the past few match-ups. However, I wouldnt be completely shocked if Newport came out, made this a very close game and even pulled off the upset. This place will be rockin' @ Newport and I think the boys will feed off the excitement. Look for Green to have a big game tonight.

Green is a descent player - he has good speed and a good shot too - but he lacks in strength. Green should have been hitting the wieghts over the summer - he is not a threat inside on defense or offense - more effective on the outside.

If Newport pulls the upset in this one, I think it's going to be a long year for Holmes. Newport has a nice squad but there's no reason Holmes should lose this game or it to even be within 15-20 points with all the talent they have.

BTW, good to hear Newport will have a nice crowd out tonight. I know they've lacked support in the past, so glad the students will be out in full force tonight. I can imagine they'll be on Housely all night.

I agree. I believe they had pre-sale tickets for students at both schools are, if I heard correctly, they were snatched up pretty quickly. I hope the place is rockin' tonight

Will people still be able to get tickets tonight at the game?

Yes. Can't wait to be in attendance and see how prepared Coach Russell has these boys against the Bulldogs.

What kind of turnout is Newport expecting? I'll be in attendance since I have to cover the game for the website I do side work for. Already on the pass list. :D

I would like to see the Cats pull it off but I don't think we will see it happen tonight.
