I see that post up above Les and I agree he played a great game. One other thing I seen from the game tho. I know he is just a sophmore and still has this year and two more years but number 41 I think last name Zolo, I just didnt see the D-1 potential in him today. I mean maybe he just had a off night or something but I just wasnt really impressed at all by him.

GRC has lots of talent, but there has to be learning curve when counting on mostly sophomores. GRC is going to get better and better as the year goes along.

Corbin is very good and will make noise in the state this year.

Good point Bubba. I agree Corbin is really their own worst enemies this year. If they get selfish and play one on one FORGET about any great accomplishments. But if they can play like they did today then you can bet that they can make some noise. I am excited to see which Corbin team comes out this coming week aganist Whitley, and if they can maintain this momentum from a huge win today.

Biggest thing Corbin needs to believe in is each other. There are many out there that want to rip them apart this year. Regardless if Crawford, Johnson, Manns, Smith, Wilson or whoever scores the most on a given night, the end result is a Redhound win. I agree, Wilson is a very good player for the Hounds. But the same can be said for any of about 7 ot 8 kids. A true team, works together, plays together and wins together. I recall this group of Hounds beating South Laurel on their homecourt by 26 points in December and then standing on the sidelines watching the Cardinals cutting down the nets at Knox Central as 13th regional champions in March. Corbin has a long way to go. The only way to get there is with hard work and total dedication. Is ------- the reason the Hounds have won tonight or is it simply they had the better team in November. Only the members of the team can make that decision. Basically the Corbin team has all the parts. It is up to them to see how far they can advance.

I agree. Also Vinny...#41 broke his leg this summer.....still not 100%. We start 3 Sophomores in Zollo, Stenzel and Rogers. Other Sophomores are Pervis ( out with ACL) and Jaylan Daniels. I said we would have some bumps in the road.....hope we are getting them over with early....:lol:

Wow congrats to Corbin. It's been a rough pre season for the Cards. I'm sure GRC will be fine though once the regular season rolls around.

Point No. 4 - Coach P's addition of Coach Crawford on the bench is going to be a big plus. Coach P did a GREAT job out there today and coach Crawford really fires the team up. He is a solid coach and is a BIG plus for Corbin. Coach West and McDaniel are also solid.

I am not sure what you get bringing in Coach Crawford who has been a career middle school coach, but time will tell.

Corbin looked very impressive against GRC.

Saw Corbin in the summer.... a very strong team. I am surprised they beat GRC as badly as they did.

 

What about Zollo? I am hearing rumors that he may not be as good as "advertised". I am starting to worry a little about Billy G recruiting kids so early (8th-9th grade). Having played and watched basketball for 35 years, I have seen a lot of kids peak at 15, and some at 35. Seems to be a lot more risky, the younger you get committments.

GRC is a very young team. I don't believe Humphrey is trying to "win" these scrimmages as much as learn what players are going to do come game time. Zollo is at a new school in a new state with a lot of pressure on him as a sophomore to impress, he will be scary but it will take time.

Elliot County and Corbin are good teams with a lot of returning starters. Peaking in the pre-season is not always a good thing but both will have good years.

Give the cards a few games and they will be a different team come january!:ylsuper:

Maybe Elliott and Corbin aren't peaking as you say. Maybe they are better than what many believed and GRC isn't. As for Zollo, He needs to improve if he's going to play in the SEC, but like I said before, he's just a sophomore.

 

 

As for bringing Crawford in, I think it's great for Corbin.

I feel like something of an idiot...it may have been in another thread...but, who is "Coach Crawford?"

 

Some of you obviously know him well and evidently he is well thought of in your neck of the woods...just give the rest of us, who are out of the loop, a little background on the coach and what he brings to the table.

I know this was a scrimmage, but this is what I saw

Point No. 1 - Corbin's defensive pressure and team speed looked great out there and I do mean great. GRC is very athletic and Corbin matched them toe-to-toe. The Redhounds were hitting the boards as hard as I've EVER seen them.

 

Point No. 2 - The Redhounds are one of the top 10 teams in the state. Corbin is underrated and has a lot of talent. The Redhounds' starting five looked solid and their bench was solid. The scary thing is that Corbin is just going to get better and better.

 

Point No. 3 - Josh Crawford is one of the top players around. He outmuscled and outplayed anyone on GRC's team. He had one of the best moves in the second quarter that I've seen in a while. If he's not back at 100 percent, yet, then he's got to be close.

Point No. 5 - Madison Johnson had a solid game and so did Isaac Wilson and I was really impressed with the way Blake Hendrickson played. He went to the basket STRONG. Actually, everyone on Corbin looked good.

 

Point No. 6 - I know it's just a scrimmage, but Corbin matched GRC in every part of the game and to be honest, the Redhounds are way better than their statewide ranking in one state preview I read.

 

Point No. 7 - I was really impressed with a couple of GRC's players and I thought Corbin did a good job on No. 41, who never really got any thing flowing.

 

Point No. 8 - This could be the best team Corbin has had in a long time. I'm anxious for the season to begin.

 

 

 

Corbin is a very solid team, a team that will be in Rupp come March, but they are not a top 10 team. Top 20 easily though.

 

I think people are taking these scrimmages too seriously. If you honestly believe any team is better than GRC by 41 points then your mistaken. It was a horrible scrimmage, they couldn't get anything going on offense. They were missing wide open 3 after 3 and that affected their defense. It will take time for this team to mesh and figure each other out. But when they do, watch out. Corbin also shot the ball very well so that had something to do with it. With the football players getting back into the swing of things, GRC will hit their stride around Christmas and be more than ready come post season. :thumb:

I totally agree about the statement that Corbin is not 41 points better on any day other than today. I also stand by my thoughts in another post that some posters on here from Winchester were raising the bar too high on this team too quickly. I agree they will be a solid team later in the season, but I also stumbled across some thinking the ticket was punched to Rupp, which I clearly believe there is about 4 teams that might differ in the region.:eek:
