Owensboro upsets the Purples!

No offense, but I'm glad Owensboro. I think my dad would have a stroke if he had to watch Bowling Green get waxed in the state final for a fourth consecutive year.

 

With that being said, good run for the Purples. They haven't been state champions, but they've had a ton of success for several years now. I'm sure they'll be solid again next year.

Wow... this loss ends a run of three straight state title game appearances for BG.

I'm not surprised. I hate it for my Purples as I secretly was having a fascination with becoming the Buffalo Bills of Kentucky, but nonetheless I am proud to be a Purple and I look forward to striving for that state title again next year.

According to the local radio guys, Yorel Shemwell had 238 yards rushing. Didn't catch the stats for Kal Prince but he had to have had about 100 yards himself.

Owensboro QB Prince almost made a costly mistake at the end of the game by running out of bounds and not getting to the first down marker on a 3rd down play with under 2 minutes to go in the game. However, for a sophomore in that offense he played a VERY, VERY good game.

 

BG got the ball back after the punt of 4th down and drove down to the OHS 9 yard line before throwing an interception on 2nd down and goal that was returned inside the BG 20 yard line to seal the win for the Red Devils.

 

Tevin Barksdale played another wonderful game for BG. As a Dragon fan I am certainly not sad to see him graduate.

 

Good season overall for BG. Had trouble with Shemwell all night long tonight, though.

It was a great game. Purples had too many penalties and backed themselves in a corner offensively in the 1st qtr. But they battled back and never gave up, even when down 21-7. These seniors experienced 3 state title runs and a good 9-3 season this year. Best of luck to OHS the rest of the way.

Great game by both teams Yorel Shemwell is absolutely awesome. He rushed for 238 yards and returned to the game after having his helmet ripped off and being punched in the face at the bottom of the pile. Had to have his eye butterflied because it got cut open and was bleeding. He is one tough kid!!

 

Also props to OHS sophmore kicker Trey Cain he hit a 36 and 43 yarder to get the Devils going tonight and also Khirey Maddox this is 2 games in a row he has come up with a huge game saving play with that int he returned about 80 yards to seal the victory tonight.

 

BG has nothing to hang their heads about they have a very good program and are true winners even though the score didn't show it tonight.

My condolences to Coach Wallace. His father passed away this morning. My prayers will be with his family.

My heart is breaking for Coach Wallace and his family. I heard about this at the game. I was really wanting this win for The Coach. Prayers are also sent from the PH household....his dad was one heck of a guy!

 

The Purples NEVER gave up. I am very proud of them for their fight. The Devils have a great team. I can only hope that they bring home the title now!! Good luck to the devil guys in their quest.

Yes our prayers are also with coach Wallace from those of us in Owensboro. Sometimes there is more important things than football.
