Cubs cut ties with Kerry Wood.

I know it is probably best for the Cubs, and I know it will be best for Woody--but I sure hate to see him go. I watched every pitch of his 20 K day ten years ago and I've been a huge fan of his ever since. He's a great leader and by all accounts, teammate, and a real asset to the city of Chicago. He and his wife host a huge bowling tournament (Kerry Wood Strike Zone) every year for children in the city. I wish him well and will cheer for him no matter whose uniform he is wearing.:thumb:

I understand your sadness, but he just seemed like a huge injury liability. You just never knew when he'd be available to pitch. It's hard to operate a team with question marks like that.

Anyone think Walt takes a chance and tries to acquire him?

I like the move. I'm not sure I like the Gregg trade, but it frees up the Wood money to make a play for Peavy or a left-handed stick. And I think Marmol is more than ready to be a closer.

Are the Cubs still throwing money down the Pryor well? Can't remember if they got rid of him or not.

I'm not saying it doesn't make sense, I am just emotionally attached to the big guy...

I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up in St. Louis or Milwaukee so he can pitch in Wrigley 18 games a year.

My money is on St. Lou, I hate to see him go but the Cubs need to get younger and I think eventually you'll see Woody in an office roll or coaching with the Cubs at some level

Pryor landed in San Diego this past year and big surprise, was hurt all this year. I don't know if that was an old injury or a new injury, who knows.

 

But thankfully he is no longer a Cub headache.

 

Marmol has closer stuff, he was going to get the job anyway. Best to give it to him now.

Just to think both Wood and Pryor were two of the top starters in the league and now both are out of Chicago. It makes me really appreciate those who can bring the heat for decades without suffering from arm injuries. Maybe a return to the state of Texas for Kerry.
