Lincoln County has two AAA runnersup (1990 and 1993)

 

Paducah Tilghman has the following titles:

 

1973 AA Champion

1985 AAA Champion

Campbell Co is probably the best 5-5 team in the state and they didn't even make the playoffs.

Tilghman won several "mythical" Lietkenhous state championships in the pre-playoff days (c.1959). I believe they won in 1939, 1940, 1946, 1947 and 1950

1992 was Billy Jack's senior year, if I remember correctly. The team PT beat in the semi-finals that year was South Oldham (with Donnell Gordon), which was a heck of a team.

 

Of course, if only the top two teams had made the playoffs from each district, then South would never have been there. The Dragons were third or fourth in their district that season.

 

In fact, South Oldham would never have made it to the playoffs a single season since the school opened in 1989 if only the top two teams in each district were invited as South has never finished 1 or 2 in their district. Among the Dragon teams that would have missed the playoffs under such a rule: 1990 (7-4), 1992 (10-4, Class AAA semi-finalists), 1995 (7-4), 1996 (8-3), and 1998 (8-3)...

Billy Jack Haskins was Tilghman's starting quarterback in the 1990-92 seasons. In 1989, he was the backup to future UK receiver and current Tilghman coach Randy Wyatt.

Correct. Tilghman was beaten by Hopkinsville for the district title ... the Tigers advanced to the state finals, losing to Danville.

Of the 32 non-qualifiers, I think Paducah Tilghman has to be the biggest shocker. I don't know that the Tornado would have been good enough to get to the state championship game, but they certainly had the talent to return to the state semifinals.

 

The fall has been fast ...

Coaching change must have done PT in. It's a shame they are not in the playoffs.
