How do you see the Engineers program Compared to Garrard . I would have to give the edge to Garrard. Garrard is one year away from being the real deal... They have 15 or 16 Jr's this year. Its TIME TO SHINE IN 09..:thumb:

 

Breathitt is stacked with a young team as well. I think their core group is mainly so. and jr. this year. I do not really know that much about Garrard. I suspect if Breathitt is to make any kind of run at all in the playoffs they should win this game by a few. Anything can happen though thats why they play the game. I think Breathitt has improved alot since those first few games of the season. I am going to say that Powell county is the only team from Breathitt's district that loses in the first round and that Estill makes another trip to Jackson in a couple of weeks.

Yes Breathitt is the traditional powerhouse football team. Garrard is one of those teams that you cant over look. If they get going early it could be a different game than the Bobcats had planned.

I think you have a good point here. Garrard has been able to get off to good starts for the most part this season, outscoring opponents 98-53 in the first quarter. But they've been outscored by an increasing amount in every quarter afterwards (110-103, 2nd; 72-49, 3rd; 107-81, 4th). Hopefully they'll get off to a good start on Friday...and then hold on!

I think the first and third quarters are going to be the keys to the game. Garrard wins the first normally but for whatever reason the Lions come out flat in the second half. Turnovers will also be a huge factor. If Garrard can get Breathitt down early and get momentum going their way, Breathitt may try and force a big play causing a turnover.

Could happen. But it would be uncharactoristic of Coach Holcomb. If they fall behind you'll likely see more and more of what has brought the Bobcats this far and that's Channing Fugate. Once he starts having some success and the defense keys on him, you'll see some passing or the other running back step up. Breathitt teams are some of the best diciplined teams out there and whlle they have some missed assignments, they're infrequent. We haven't faced a real good passing team imo. How does Garrard pick up their yardage?

I would list quality opponents for Garrard as: Bell County (6-50), Somerset (27-44), Taylor County (56-65), Wayne County (12-33) and Frankfort (7-55).

 

Bell County is a 4A title contender and Frankfort likely is in 1A. Somerset, Taylor County and Wayne County are all capable of winning a playoff game or two.

 

For Breathitt: Johnson Central (14-26), Prestonsburg (20-27), Estill County (7-6) and Lexington Christian (40-26).

 

Johnson Central should make a run in 5A, Prestonsburg could make a run to Louisville in 2A, Estill County is highly underrated in 3A and Lexington Christian might win the 1A title.

 

If anything, the opponents for both are even. And the huge edge then goes to Breathitt County because they've beat good teams. Garrard's wins have come over Bethlehem (3-7, 1A), Jackson County (2-8, 3A), Casey County (2-8, 2A) and Pendleton County (0-10, 4A).

 

Do I want Garrard to win? Of course. But am I realistic in thinking it will take a monumental effort to keep the game close? I think I am.

Give the edge to Garrard over Estill this season????? Maybe I read this wrong, Estill is 9-1 and ranked 3rd in 3A. Garrard might be competitive with Estill next season but don't think they could take the Engineers this year.

A simple oversight. Harlan County was definitely a quality opponent for Breathitt...and Breathitt handled them.

I've cheered for Garrard all year, but the Bobcats will just be too much. Garrard has some serious athletes and expected a little more out of them this year, but the only playoff teams from this region they could compete with would be Powell, or one of the other teams from their district. They should be very dangerous next year, after giving this coaching staff a little more time, good luck in Jackson.
