I would say that NCC and Brossart needs to be added to the list.

In the 14th Powell County and Estill County. Those two are in the same district, are about 20 minutes apart, and have around the same enrollment (somewhere around 700 to 750). When Estill moved to the 14th region I knew this would develop into a good one.

 

Of course Hazard and Perry Central is also one of the best rivalries in the state.

Estill County and Lee County has always been spirited as well even before Estill moved to the 14th. They suspended the series for a few years back in the 90's due to the hot feelings over it.

Can't have a rivalry list without including Ashland/Boyd County as well.

Yes, NCC vs Brossart is what I was speaking of. This game carries much more meaning in some decision making for certain athletes.

There's no doubt that Owsley County's biggest rival is Lee County and vice versa. The rivalry has been lopsided on both sides occasionally over the last 30 years, with Lee dominating in the late 1970s after the teams resumed scheduling again in 1977, after not doing so for 25 years due to a fight between an Owsley administrator and a Lee businessman over a seat in Lee's gym at the time, which seated around 500. It happened during the 1953 district tournament.

The Owls and Bobcats both had some great years through the 1980s, and Owsley dominated throughout the 1990s to 2005. Lee has dominated since 2006.

Good rivalry indeed. Lee is loaded this year and is rated #1 in the district, and also one of the higher ranked teams in the 14th region, but the gyms will still be packed and ready to cheer their respective schools when they meet, as a rivalry should.:thumb:

I agree. That's not very far from where I live. I may try to attend at least one of these games, probably at SL.
