My point is that the offense really didn't do anything to start with, besides being handed great field position. To start your first 2 drives on the

Steelers side of the 50 and not get a single first down.

Redskins have a chance on the big time Monday stage to show they are going to stay with the Giants and they fall flat.

 

Give Pittsburgh all the credit in the world, but how in the world can you at not least pick ONE first down during those two opening drives when you were given great field position.

 

Byron did play well in Jacksonville at times, he could just never stay healthy. I'm going to take a guess that if he has to start several games for the Steelers, he will end up injured as well.

Well, after sever shouting at the TV bouts last night, here are my observations:

 

1. I still believe that the Steelers D is the best in the league. Easy to say that when they already rank there. Run D is awesome. Squelched Jacobs and Portis in consecutive weeks.

2. I loathe listening to Tony Korholer on MNF. He rakes on my nerves. I was so thankful that the Steelers won if for nothing else than he could shut his pie hole singing his Redskins praises.

3. After seeing every single play (minus the 2 when I was in the restroom at PBS vs. the Bengals) I have watched very closely more than just the blitz pickup and the like when the Steelers are getting bombarded by the rush. Here's my take. Ben gets them in the play at the line when there are 6 or 7 obvious pass rushers coming. Whether or not Arians or Ben make that decision is moot. We run 10yd routes. Not a prayer to hold the ball that long to make that play. So, the OL has been thrown under the bus for breakdown when in fact, no one can convince me that it's anything other than poor play selection. Even when they pressured Byron Statue back there, he got the ball out because the routes were conservative. So, with that said, most of that must be on Ben.

4. Jason Campbell is what I thought he was.

5. Portis is a bad man. His acceleration is amazing. He's the best RB in the league my opinion, hands down.

6. James Harrison gets held every play when pass rushing, of course that won't be called, but poor Samuels was called at least 3 times. I bet he'll be glad to get back to the slower 6'4" power rushers.

7. How in God's creation do you sign a punter this week and inactivate him when your punter has 2 bad hammies?

8. Willie Parker still isn't 100 percent and having Mewelde Moore may be the biggest asset the Steelers have.

9. London Fletcher is still a tackling machine. He flat gets it done.

10. Perhaps a week off for Ben, even though it's against Indy, is the best thing for all involved.

11. I'm so very thankful to make it to the halfway point 6-2 and would be tickled pink to finish 12-4.

2. I agree again. And, I like Kornheiser. But, he turns everything into hyperbole and it really wears on me.

3. Again, I agree. I'm sure the Steelers line could improve, but I think they get far more blame than they're actually responsible for.

4. Still not sure about Campbell. He's definitely better than I was expecting this year, but I'm still not convinced he's a guy that's going to win games for the 'Skins at this point. I still like his potential. Especially considering how well he's adapted to Zorn. With another year or two, he may be that guy.

5. Portis is a great back. I don't think he's the best in the league though. I'll go with Brian Westbrook there. And, I wouldn't write LT off just yet. He may get going as he gets healthier and he's been too good too long to forget about him because of one sub-par (by his standards) half of a season. Plus, there are so many good backs, I don't think any of them can be called hands down the best.

6. I can't figure out holding in the NFL. There is holding on at least half the plays (probably more). It seems totally random to me when they call it.

8. Moore has definitely been huge for the Steelers.

10. He's my fantasy QB and Kyle Orton is my backup. I can't afford to have Ben take a week off. :lol:

11. Very impressive with the Steelers schedule and some of the problems/injuries they've had to endure. They and Tennessee are clearly the top two teams in the AFC. I'd say you could flip a coin between them.

But again, for my money, Portis catches it out of the backfield well, picks up blitzes very well. He's the best IMO. I know you're fond of Westbrook, but I will guess you're in the minority with that selection.

He won't. If he could he'd still have a starting job. Don't know that it matters anyway with the way the defense is playing.

Possibly. Both guys are great runners. Both are very good in blitz pick-up. But, Westbrook is much better as a receiver. I don't have any particular fondness for Westbrook. I like he and Portis both and I think both are great backs. I just think Westbrook has proven to be the better player.

 

Maybe the majority would go with Portis right now because they're caught up in the fact that he's having a great season and some people are even touting him as the MVP. I guess it takes more than one really good half a season to erase the previous four years for me. Regardless, whomever you choose, I just think there are too many good backs for any of them to be "hands down" the best.

 

BTW, I like the combo of Johnson and White in Tennessee. I hope they can keep them together for the long haul, but I suspect White will get disgruntled if his role diminishes.
