I'll condense this down to a per 16 game average (including this year's stats through last night's game)... Portis (64 Games) 1403 rushing yards (4.2 ypc) 290 receiving yards (7.6 ypr) 10.8 TD Westbrook (61 Games) 1154 rushing yards (4.6 ypc) 777 receiving yards (9.1 ypr) 12.3 TD So, per 16 games, you get Westbrook producing 1931 total yards, 5.8 yards per touch, and 12-13 TD. Portis gives you 1693 total yards, 4.5 yards per touch, and 10-11 TD. In addition, during that span, Westbrook has fumbled 5 times, losing 4. Portis has fumbled 15 times, losing 12. So, not only his production lower, but he coughs the ball up 3 times more.

I'm not the biggest CP fan in the world by any stretch, simply putting the #'s out there to state my case for CP the better player, IMHO. MVP? Perhaps, but I doubt it when all is said and done. All things equal, I'd take CP. they came into the league the same year, why only compare from 04?

Westbrook wasn't the instant impact, NFL ready star that Portis was from the word "go". 2004 is when he fully emerged as the centerpiece of the Eagles offense. To compare them before that is obviously going to skew the numbers significantly toward Portis and its not going to give you anything close to an accurate representation of the two players. I think comparing their #'s since 2004 where both have been centerpieces on the same team makes more sense. Especially, considering that Portis hasn't come close to matching his Denver production since coming to DC...but, this year may be the exception if he keeps it up. I'm fine going down the #'s path. If you want to add their career totals and ignore the fact that Westbrook developed into a star after arriving, that's fine. But, you know as well as I do that it doesn't offer a fair comparison. And, I can say with the utmost confidence that Brian Westbrook is significantly better than Portis as a pass catcher.

Never said I was discounting it. If I wanted to twist the numbers, I wouldn't have gone back to '04. I'd have stopped at '06 when Westbrook really blew up. But, if you're gonna use their career totals from when Portis came in the league, how on earth could you possibly pick any RB as the best besides LT? His numbers are far superior to any back in the league since 2002. Tomlinson...here's a guy that's been written off because he's having a bad year. A bad year for LT? Well, he's on pace for 1532 total yards and 10 TD. Conversely, Portis' best year was 1905 yards and 14 TD. For arguments sake, since LT has played one more year than Portis, let's take his monster season in 2006 out of the equation. He has 676 more rushing yards, 1920 more total yards, and 29 more TD's. Is a sub-par, again by his standards, half a season combined with possibly the best 8 game stretch of Portis' career enough to erase the past 6-7 years? Honestly, I have no problem with your choice of Portis. Its the "hands down" part I disagree with. The fact that we're debating this proves that. LaDainian Tomlinson has been the best back in the NFL for several years. I think I'll give him the benefit of the doubt through the rest of the season rather than write him off after 8 games. He had his best game of the season last week, he had a bye week to rest, he's healthier than he's been all season and the schedule eases up. I bet at the season's end there won't be a huge difference in the yardage totals between he and Portis. And, I guarantee you that Tomlinson will end up with more TD's.

My options are as follows: Marc Bulger Jeff Garcia Matt Cassel Brady Quinn Kerry Collins Gus Frerrotte Joe Flacco Sage Rosenfels Tyler Thigpen JaMarcus Russell Dan Orlovsky Rex Grossman I haven't had a chance to really study up on this. I was considering taking a shot on Quinn since they play Denver and in the hope that his first start will ignite the team and they'll play over their head for a week.
