October 30, 200817 yr I thought it would be interesting to see what teams people thought were the best from the 1960's to now. I'll give an example: 1960's-Alabama, Ohio St, Michigan 1970's-Oklahoma, Nebraska, Alabama 1980's-Georgia, Miami 1990's-Miami, Florida St 2000's-USC, Ohio St, Florida Try to narrow your selections to one per decade. Its more fun and more difficult!:thumb:
October 30, 200817 yr Nebraska in the 90's: 2.5 National Championships, 5 bowl wins -Cumulative Record: 108-16-1 (.868) -Average Finishing Rank: 7.9 Florida State in the 90's: 2 National Championships, 8 bowl wins -Cumulative Record: 109-13-1 (.886) -Average Finishing Rank: 2.9 Nebraska has one thing over the 'Noles, and it was a gift to the retiring Coach Osborne. Florida State also defeated Nebraska in both of their head to head bowl game matchups in the 90s, including the 1993 national championship. You gotta give the 90s to FSU. And BTW, Miami in the 90s, not very much special, especially after '93 or so.

I mean for the love of pete, the 99 championship was handed to them when they looked over and saw Virginia Tech on the opposite side of the field.

You wouldn't be talking about the same 1993 national championship that the media gift wrapped for Bowden because they wanted him to get a ring would you? I seem to remember that they and Notre Dame finished 1-2 that year, both with one loss...the only difference is FSU's loss came against Notre Dame. Your claim that Nebraska's title was a gift to their retiring coach is comical, considering FSU's first title was a gift to the coach who couldn't get over the hump. :sssh:
October 30, 200817 yr 2000's LSU (81-20) overall, (48-15) vs. SEC, (6-2) in Bowl Games, including two National Championships '03 and '07 1990's FLORIDA (102-22-1) overall, (69-9) vs. SEC, (5-4) in Bowl Games, Nat'l Champs in '96, finished 8 of 10 years in the top 10. 1980's - Miami 1970's- Alabama (103-16-1) 2 nat'l titles, 8 top 10's 1960's- Alabama (90-16-4) 2 nat'l titles, 9 top 10's

October 30, 200817 yr I think Alabama has to be considered tops in the 60's but there were some other outstanding ones then too: Texas won 2 National titles as well but had a stretch in the mid 60's that was more 6-4, 7-3 fodder. Still they probably are ranked as much or more so in the top than Michigan and probably more so than Ohio State. The green monsters from Lansing controlled Big 10 in the mid 60's and lesser teams like Wisconsin and Indiana made Rose Bowls then too. The 70's has Alabama making a good case but Oklahoma was pretty dominant in that decade. They won 2 National titles ('74 and '75) and were full of 1 loss seasons as well. They were also undefeated in '73 I think but ineligible for a bowl. In the 80's Miami won 2 National Titles I think and were pretty awesome in some other years. But didn't Penn State win 2 as well and just miss when they lost Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl in '85?

The 'Noles only dropped one spot because of how close the game was and where they were playing at. Notre Dame dropped significantly more because they lost to an unranked team at home. I would have rather seen a rematch in the Orange Bowl, but let's not pretend that we haven't all heard about it being important when you lose and to whom. Nebraska getting a gift vote from the coaches despite Michigan clearly deserving it more is totally the same thing. You're right, how comical.
