The Jeff Wera led team of 2004 I believe was pretty good as well. I'd say his senior year team would definetly rank up there at the top of the list somewhere. Newcath was 11-2 that year with both losses coming to Beechwood.

 

As far as this year's team goes, I guess we'll just have to wait until the end of the season and see if Beechwood brings the hardware home.

 

I personally don't see anyone being able to stop them this year though.

 

It be hard to make that argument since Jeff Wera never won a state title. However I played against him his senior year. And that Beechwood team was better than the one who did win it all the next year. Wera's senior year they just ran into a GREAT Danville team. I think that Beechwood team was the best Beechwood team ever not to win the title...:thumb:

Of course, I'm biased, but I believe '07 was a more athletic and well oiled machine. I also think '04 jelled better than '03. Sometimes, the cast of characters determines the better TEAM. (I'm talking getting along, having strong role models, team leaders as well as good athletes).

 

I don't want to take anything away from this year's team. They have surprised me with people stepping up in unlikely positions. I just have my heart with last year's team.

Beechwood in the early '90s were pretty incredible. I wouldn't be able to put anyone ahead of a team with Wulfeck and Berger in the backfield.

 

By the way, what are those 2 doing these days? I always thought they'd be very successful, no matter what they chose to do.
