October 25, 200817 yr Curlin was upset in the Classic. He came in 4th, but made a huge move coming around the turn at the top of the stretch, but there were others bombing up right behind him. Still ran a big race, but the others were even better. 8 - Raven's Pass 5 - Henry The Navigator 3 - Tiago 9 - Curlin The exotics are gonna be massive.
October 25, 200817 yr Author Synthetic racing is just dumb. It is nothing but a turf race. There is no strategy involved anymore. Just go to the back and make a run the last furlong. I am not upset Curlin got beat, just upset that these dumb Euro horses come over here and win on this track just because it is all Turf for the most part.
October 25, 200817 yr Author Curlin broke way to early.. He didn't have it at all when he went. No. He made his move when he always does, and he had it, just not a turf horse.
October 25, 200817 yr No. He made his move when he always does, and he had it, just not a turf horse. He never had it.. It might be because of the "turf" but he never had it..
October 25, 200817 yr Author He never had it.. It might be because of the "turf" but he never had it.. I mean he made a huge move to take the lead its just that in this type of racing its all about the finish, where as in conventional dirt the winner usually makes an aggressive move on the turn but able to hold the horses off. :thumb:
October 25, 200817 yr Great day of racing.. I broke even but I didn't get to make a few of the bets I wanted too..
October 25, 200817 yr http://www.equibase.com/static/chart/summary/OSA102508USA-EQB.html The Classic isn't up yet.. A few real big payouts today
October 25, 200817 yr Author What did the exotics pay? Like 200 for the dollar exacta and I think like 2200 for the 1 tri. Not sure though.
October 26, 200817 yr Like 200 for the dollar exacta and I think like 2200 for the 1 tri. Not sure though. I hit the $1 Exacta in the Classic! Paid somewhere around $158. Almost made up for all my losses in the other races. Fun day at Keeneland.
October 26, 200817 yr Synthetic racing is just dumb. It is nothing but a turf race. It's really thrown a monkey wrench into our sport. You're right, tracks with poly now have two turf courses the grey/brown outer and the green inner. To substatiate your point, they were off the turf at Keeneland today and NOBODY scratched out.

That could be a good thing, but Im not sure. Breeders are going to have to start breeding with stamina on the top and the bottom, rather than pure speed.
October 26, 200817 yr I thought the purpose of a synthetic track was to prevent injuries to the horses. It is my understanding that since the institution of the poly track, fewer horses have been injured and put down. Yes, probably there is a bit of a problem handicapping these races, but so what? Horses will get used to it and be better off in the long run.

Horses will get used to it and be better off in the long run. Like I said, these synthetic tracks are going to change the breeding aspects, training techniques and riding strategies.
