Debate #3

I'm curious to hear your reasoning for that...

A guy that makes $35,000 a year should pay the same amount in taxes as a guy who makes $250,000?

Yes. They most certainly should pay the same percentage. Take your example with a flat tax rate of 10%.

The guy making $35,000, pays $3,500 in taxes.

The guy making $250,000, pays $25,000 in taxes.

Dollar amount, they most certainly should pay more, but not percentage wise.

No, but as Hearsay just pointed out with his link, what you said is false....

I was using sarcasm when I said they were "in the tank" since that is a catch phrase with conservatives regarding those who support Obama.

I did not mean to imply that they supported Obama's plan, but they certainly do not like McCains'.

So you do care if they agree with you . . .

Apples and oranges. The wealthy pay property taxes on much of that wealth. The relevant comparisons are income tax to income tax and property tax to property tax. The wealthy pay more than their fair share of federal income taxes. Raising taxes during a recession makes no sense.

Property taxes, and capital gains taxes, and payroll taxes, and personal property taxes, and inventory taxes, and when you die, estate and inheritance taxes . . .

Truly, truly apples to oranges.

Not particularly. I feel I'm educated enough to make my own decisions. I don't need people telling me what I should believe. I can form my own opinions.

Schieffer was outstanding and should be hired permanently.

I thought that Schieffer was very good as well, that may be bc look who we had to compare him with in the other two debates which the mods in those were pathetic and even the newly registered voter "Mickey Mouse" could had done a better job than Brokaw.

That man (Brokaw) imo should just be put out to pasture somewhere and never to be called on for anything again. While I am at it, Katie Couric should get an early retirement package sent to her as well.

My apologies, UKMF. I was confused, and thought you mean they should pay the same in terms of dollars. :thumb: I agree with your intended sentiment.

My wife would call that kind of answer a "save." It certainly sounded as if you were saying the Chamber was backing Obama. I'll take you at your word that that's not what you meant.

I used to be a regular viewer of Meet the Press. With Brokaw hosting, I have not been able to watch a full show. He is very unprofessional.

No worries. Heck, this board wouldn't be near as fun if everyone agreed all the time. :D

McCain was definitely on his game tonight. I'd say McCain won this one, and Obama looked flustered. The best line of the night was McCain's, "If you wanted to run against George Bush, you should have ran 4 years ago." I don't think Obama mentioned Bush after that. Obama completely lied point blank when he talked about small businesses being exempt from his health care fine. Can't believe that hasn't been discussed more in here.

I think some people on here need to stop being so sensitive....My goodness, every single time McCain attacked Obama, people were whining, but when Obama attacked McCain, they were silent....At least add something of substance to the thread.

Great Post, you have won this thread UKM. :thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb:

(Not bad for a Michigan fan, lol)

Call it what you will, but even the big O said that the chamber is not a bastian for liberal democrats. If you watched that part of the debate it was a play off of what he said.

And, you see, on here, if you agree with Obama or disagree with McCain you are either drinking the kool-aid or "in the tank" - you have been blinded by his brilliance. the simple fact is, his policies align with mine.

That is putting it mildly.
