October 16, 200818 yr McCain was definitely on his game tonight. I'd say McCain won this one, and Obama looked flustered. The best line of the night was McCain's, "If you wanted to run against George Bush, you should have ran 4 years ago." I don't think Obama mentioned Bush after that. Obama completely lied point blank when he talked about small businesses being exempt from his health care fine. Can't believe that hasn't been discussed more in here. I think some people on here need to stop being so sensitive....My goodness, every single time McCain attacked Obama, people were whining, but when Obama attacked McCain, they were silent....At least add something of substance to the thread.
October 16, 200818 yr Why raise taxes for anybody in America? Because people who make $250,000+ can afford it... Are you serious? You really think just because people have made themselves successful, they should have to pay more than their share of taxes? Why should they have to support poor people, some of which are poor, because they're too lazy to get a job.

Wouldn't you be better suited to afford such a tax increase?
October 16, 200818 yr Has Obama ever responded to the $832,000 his campaign gave ACORN? He sure had the opportunity tonight when McCain specifically mentioned it, but he specifically ducked it. The response to the "tying him to Bush" remark was fantastic, and even the most staunch Obama supporters on here should concede that Obama's approach to that is old and tired. However, McCain could have tied Obama's policies to the Democratic policies of the 90's and he didn't do that. McCain missed an opportunity to follow up by pointing out that Obama trained ACORN workers. He also should have made the connection between Obama the community organizer and ACORN the organization of community organizers. McCain also missed a golden opportunity to tie together the Ayers connection with Obama's own record on "educational reform," which consisted of handing out millions of dollars to radicalize students with no discernable improvement in academic achievement in the schools that were targeted. Overall, I thought McCain won the debate but McCain missed a couple of great opportunities.
October 16, 200818 yr More than their share? If you make more money, aren't you taxed more? Wouldn't you be better suited to afford such a tax increase? Not when the money is going to support those that won't support themselves. FWIW, their should be a set tax rate that is the same across income lines. I don't know exactly what that percentage should be, but everyone should pay the same percent. Penalizing people for being successful is a joke.
October 16, 200818 yr I agree 100%. No one thinks outside the box when it comes to education. Head Start and Early CHildhood have been abject failures. It is nothing but glorified day care. It definitely needs reformed.
October 16, 200818 yr Disappointed Conservative here tonight. The door was left wide open for McCain on a few fronts and he didn't close the deal. He could have pressed the Ayers issue more by tying it to education and how Obama gave grants to political causes not math and reading...which is fact. He should have brought up Jeremiah Wright...Rezko, and ACORN more firmly. He should have blasted Obama on the infanticide...he let him off. McCain was more forceful... On healthcare, he should have said employers under the Obama bill could drop you from their helathcare so you can pickup the government health care. McCain did better but could have done more. :thumb: I did not see your post before making mine but I agree that McCain did well but missed a chance to hit one out of the park tonight.
October 16, 200818 yr You say Obama's healthcare plan is a joke, but the United States Chamber of Commerce has said that McCain's is. The Chamber of Commerce is now in the tank for Obama.

October 16, 200818 yr Hoot and LABS, I think we need to cut Senator Mac a break. They were not given much time with each answer, he was much more forceful, and I don't think even I, who am brilliant beyond all measure and compare, could have been ready with all of the bullets that we have the hindsight of reproducing. He did well tonight, and restored some of my hope.
October 16, 200818 yr More than their share? If you make more money, aren't you taxed more? Wouldn't you be better suited to afford such a tax increase? The top 25% of of all wage earners pay 86% of all income taxes. That is pretty hefty. Spread the wealth....take money from wage earners and give to those who pay no income tax.

Also, do you smell a automaker buyout coming?
October 16, 200818 yr You say Obama's healthcare plan is a joke, but the United States Chamber of Commerce has said that McCain's is. The Chamber of Commerce is now in the tank for Obama. False. The Chamber chairman was critical of McCain's plan in a quote used for a New York Times article, but the Chamber has roundly says there are 'hits and misses' in both plans and nowhere takes up for Obama. http://www.chamberpost.com/2008/10/health-care---n.html

However, McCain had tremendous pressure on him tonight and I agree that he deserves credit for turning in a pretty good performance. Kudos to Bob Schieffer as well. NBC and Tom Brokaw have been the big losers in these debates.
