And I meant no disrespect, in my above post, to the kids who have played while Josh and Jarred were out. Quite the contrary, those kids have performed extremely well. I'm just really glad for Josh and Jarred because they are seniors and are finally getting to play in their last year of high school football.

 

As for the Scott game, Birds played very well (obviously so don't put the Captain Obvious picture up BF!).

 

Scott kids impressed me. Seriously. No doubt the program is far, maybe very far behind Highlands. But the Scott kids were well coached and played hard. And they were tough. They were taking some very tough hits from the Highands D but kept getting up. Reyes got crushed and bent up bad by about 8 Highlands defenders. Went out for several plays. The game was already out of hand and Reyes could have simply told the Scott coaches that his knee hurt too bad to go back in. Nope. After a few plays he was back out there helping his teammates to do their best. That kid is not only talented, he is a leader. He could play on my team, most definitely.

 

 

When Coach Campbell has the program to the point that kids will switch positions for the betterment of the team (like Ball and Stine did for Highlands last year) he will have brought Scott far. And I like what I see and hear about Campbell. Give this man some support and give him some time and Scott has the potential to build a strong football program. In my mind, Scott is in a race with Simon Kenton and Dixie.

 

Dixie, as many have discussed on here, has a reputation for underachieving. Whether its due to coaching, or whatever, they just haven't consistently stayed over the hump. Simon Kenton has had glimmers of success and at times has looked like the team on the rise. A lot of people felt they were going to be the 6A leader in N. Ky this year. So far, that hasn't materialized this year. Maybe it will. But if Campbell can quickly get the kids, parents and the supporters to buy into what he's doing, Scott could become the Kenton County school that the better football players want to attend (Kenton County, as most know, has open enrollment). If that happens, watch out.

Bitten my tongue on numerous occasions on this forum, out of respect to those who were friends with the past coaching staff at Scott. But it is night and day compared to the past staff and Coach Campbell's staff. Take it from a parent of a player in the system, Scott had to make a change to turn the whole football program around and IMO, they made a whale of a hire when landing Campbell. It'll take a few years but Scott is finally headed in the right direction.

I respect what Coach Campbell is doing in Taylor Mill. As an alum, playing for the Coach Fisk and favoring him, everybody is better off being where they are now. Coach Campbell is doing a great job with the Eagles and the program. I do not agree with wanting to change the school fight song but with the program he is doing a good job. Good luck Eagles and keep fighting and playing hard.

 

As for the game, wow Highlands is the real deal. They were better last year but this years team is not that much behind last years. The Blue Birds will roll again in the playoffs and win another State Championship there is no doubt about that. Collinsworth is an absolute stud. With him only being a junior look for this kid to do big big things.

It's amazing the offensive of weapons the Birds have. Last year it was Conner and then Cecil and then some more Conner, very seldom did they throw the ball. This years team has so many weapons the opposing teams are going to have a lot of trouble stopping them. Conner, Crawford, Head, Fennel, and the Alford kid runs the ball hard too! Not to mention the passing arsenal TG is remarkable and he has at least 6 or 7 targets. They are a fundamentally sound high school football team and they are fun to watch play. But they are far from winning another state championship. The secondary will have to get better and also their line backers need to tackle better, and could they really stop a powerhouse rushing attack? Good Luck boys and keep working hard, the schedule is about to get a little tougher!

Yes they have a lot of talent and more than you continually seem to mention. The secondary and linebacking crews will handle any rushing attack 5A will throw at them.

I hope your right!!! A good football team is going to expose some of Highlands weaknesses, which is a pretty small list. But there is one that comes to mind that we will have to address quickly, when the time comes. Go Birds!!!:thumb:

Let's wait and see before we announce him as Scott's football savior, he does bring stuff to the table that the program needs but so did some of the last coaches in the system. I am a Scott supporter and will always be but I just want to wait and see what happens first.

I agree. I think if maybe he was at another school where he went in and didn't know anyone, maybe he could make it work. I don't see him playing favorites though after coaching with him in another sport. Oh well, good luck to him and his former school.

I'll tell you the difference from personal experience. Coach Campbell realizes that a strong HS program begins at the middle school level. You have to keep your own and not lose kids to other schools. Campbell was front and center at the very first football meeting with the middle school parents. He explained his philosophy, how he expected his players to conduct themselves in the classroom, on the football field and in public. Let me tell you, the guy is very impressive.

 

In the off season Campbell himself, ran the middle school conditioning program. We are talking middle school here! He treated these kids like they were men and I can tell you, he sold himself very well to many of these kids. The guy is an endless worker. Very open and personable. He made a point to let every parent know they are welcome to visit the Eagles nest and see what he is trying to accomplish at Scott high school. He's trying to change the attitude of the program. The expecting to lose attitude.

 

Last years coaching staff was no where to be seen at the middle school level. The kids had no reason what so ever to play for Scott. Last years coaching staff may have been great but unfortunately, they never made themselves available to the middle school players so they could learn so themselves.

 

When you are historically the doormat of NKY football, you have to do something different to change the culture. Campbell is trying to do that. He may do things a little different than what most around the Scott program are use to and I'm not here to say that all his moves are the right ones. He sounds like what alot of High School teams need and Scott should be glad they have him. Just hope they can keep him. He sounds like the type of coach that many schools are hoping for and if Scott doesn't treat him right and give him a chance he may be gone.

 

I hope all the best for Coach Campbell and really want him to succeed at Scott. It has been along time that Scott has had a successful program and the kids and the community deserve it.
