A an outside observer of the GC program, I have one question. Why is that it seems that GC has had stellar Freshmen teams in the past and it doesn't seem to translate over to the Varsity level in a big way? I remember in the past 5-10 years that the young Musketeers have even had freshmen teams that have gone undefeated, what gives? Is it that players quit after their freshmen year, coaching, lack of discipline, what?

I have been very gracious to any and all opponets whether is be in victory or defeat. I think that my post in the past and fans from all schools will prove that out. I apologize if that was taken in any other way, just a figure of speech.

Now, back to my question. Are you blaming the officials for a 40-6 loss?

Oldrambler is one of the most pleasant and gracious posters from our area on this site. To question his motives or his tone is "portentous". Oldrambler, I think you are a great fan and fair to all schools and their fans, in victory and defeat. I'm glad you are here for the Ram Nation.

These are the questions that are asked every year, but noone seems to have the answers.

To Greenup's credit, they played hard the entire game but were just outmatched and outplayed. Greenup has a ton of younger players that are taking some lumps, but will be a team to be reckoned with for the next couple of years.
:thumb:I agree with this comment doc. This game of h.s. football is all about the kids and the GCHS play hard. They will get nothing but better and I hope that the fan base at GC says behind them.

Thank you doc and btw, the check is in the mail.:sssh: (LOL)

The assigning secretary needs to be aware of communities that certain officials operate in.

Obviously, Raceland would have won last night without the officials' mistakes. That is not the point of this post.

The point is that the assigning secretary and other crews need to be aware that Greenup County will no longer tolerate inappropriate officiating that endangers the safety of our players.

1.) Helmet to helmet (several times)

2.) Late hit out of bounds (several times)

Non-safety tidbits from the game.

1.) Inadvertant whistle on the Interception return for a TD.

2.) Holding penalty on GC's OL that was called simply because the Ram player fell to the ground. (The GC player isn't strong enough to drive your player into the ground.) That was the play that Lyle made it to the 2 yard line, I believe.

There are others, but I'll leave it at that. These aren't sour grapes. But, the officials are making it difficult for the kids at GCHS to enjoy the game of football.

Let's hope that the officials don't affect the Boyd County/Greenup County game this week.

(BTW, I hope that Raceland wins Class 1A this year!)

You want to talk about penalties not being called, Robbie Logan would have had a lot more sacks on the quarterback if penalties would have been called. Don't blame the officals because your OL couldn't keep Logan and company out of the backfield. I won't say penalties wasn't missed both ways, but if you want to talk about them, you need to watch the film very closely.

Greenup County was just out played and out coached. The refs could call a penalty on every play if they wanted. I know that some refs will not call a penalty if it does not effect the play if they did the game would last 4hrs. If there is any complaints about the refs, they are short handed and need some to sign up and help them call the games so if you are interested in helping call- the local high school to get the info on it. I know because I ref took this year off to watch my son play.

Yes sir. They were overpowering. The GC o-line was holding all night. The refs let it go in the second half because they were up by so much (that's actually words told to players when they complained about it). I don't have a problem with letting some of that stuff go when a game is out of reach, but...............Some of the Raceland boys told me it was the dirtiest game they every played in. Many of them have cleat marks up their arms and calves from the pile ups.

As far as being out played I'm not sure the boys can only do as they are told to do by the coaches. Now as for being out coached you gotta an A+. I don't know why but the coaches just can't seem to adjust when needed. I know that there is plenty of talent on the gchs team so why can't the coaches seem to get it out of the players?

I believe it is a little bit of it all. Coaching ,the boys get tired of playing for a team that is always losing. Yes they did make it to win their district last year but they have been teased about not really deserving to be there. And after the game friday night against Raceland, in the huddle the coach told the boys that it dosen't matter that they lost that they are 1 and 0 as far as district.

As far as players quitting we just had a Junior player quit last week. And alot of transfers to other schools to play for them.

Lack of discipline I'm not real sure if the boys even respect their coaches so you kinda get the picture . I have always wondered if some of these good coaches from like Russell for example coached a game for the GCHS what would happen?

I just hate seeing the team keep losing because the boys try so hard . Oh well maybe fridays game will be better .:thumb: Good Luck GCHS ! Play Hard.:dancingpa

Rule 13

That being said -- there should be impartiality in officiating between JFL and Varsity games.

I would say that was lacking Friday night.

Ram fans, would you agree that there should be impartiality in officiating between JFL and Varsity games? In other words, should a community be able to have a set of officials at their Saturday morning JFL games also officiate for their Friday night Varsity contests?

YES!!!

BTW and just a note...Welcome to BGP how-u-doin. :thumb:

I don't even know where to begin. I tried to hold off from replying but I couldn't resist, I had to. This might just be the craziest thing that I have ever read on Preps. First off, I'm an official and alot of you know who I am. I officiate on Friday nights and JFL on Saturday and Sunday. I'll have you know that I officiate Russell, Ashland, Raceland, Fairview, Boyd, Greenup, East Carter, and even Morgan County JFL leagues. Should I not be able to officiate any of those schools on Friday nights? Are you serious? Most of us people don't worry about what school a little kid goes too and plays JFL for, I could care less. I'm certainly not thinking about a JFL league when I'm officiating varsity football. Are you saying that an official says to himself...." Well, since I call for their JFL league I'm going to ignore that penalty." I really hope not because that would just be absurd. Second, You're griping about a hold and an inadvertant whistle. Get over it!! Inadvertant whistles HAPPEN!! That's football. It doesn't matter who it is becaused it's happenned to all of us, all the way up to the NFL level. You're not always going to agree with every call, I understand that, especially against "your" team. I'm sure you were on the sidelines at the time, maybe that official saw something that you didn't from your view. Ever occur to you that way? Somehow I doubt it. And lastly, Who are you speaking for when you say that Greenup County will no longer tolerate inappropriate officiating? I know the officials in this area, I know officiating in general and what it takes to be a good official and we have very good crews in our area. I know the crew that had that game and they are very dedicated and qualified to do the job and they are VERY safety conscience. If you don't agree, you can register with the state and try to improve things rather than griping on a public forum. You have a right to your opinion but you are WAY off base with this.

Yes they should, because there would not be officials at JFL games. Officials were in short supply. Most officials I know have a kid playing football or basketball at some level. The officials who had kids playing were always harder on his kids team for fear of being partial. I always hated to see a ref show up at one of his sons games. Plus most ref JFL for the love of the game, not the money nor to give an advantage to a particular team.
