They did just like Paris but you cannot make the kids come! It's up to the kids.

 

Another prime example of the youth of today in Paris/BC are just not into it like it used to be.

Maybe a few, a handful, maybe.

Also football has to compete with boys fall soccer, youth programs compete with fall baseball, etc...

You know back when we were all kids it was spring baseball, fall football.

Preps played golf team, girls cheered and marched in the band.

It is that way everywhere, you have your big powers due to the fact that kids and parents want to move there to be part of something that is already good.

From an outsider looking in I would give Massie a "C" for what he has accomplished so far. I would give the previous 2 coaches an "F", so he is a big improvement. If the program wants to have a coach that is better than Massie they need to wait a few more years for him to make the program more attractive to someone. However it will never be attractive without administrative and community support. The last 2 coaches hired and this very thread about coach Massie leads me to believe that there is no Administrative or community support.

How do you give Massie a C? He won more games as head coach then the team had won the previous 2.5 years. He is doing the best he can with what he has to work with. You have to give him an A for effort. It's not his fault he has little talent and only 30 some kids to work with.. which is sad when the high school holds around 900.

 

As for administration, some are behind him while others want him out.. just like the community.. it seems like the parents of the kids who arent playing for whatever reason say they arent playing because of coaching, but yet some of the community who respects what he is trying to do is behind him all the way.

I did hear that several players had quit the team this past week. Don't know any details. Has anybody heard anything.

 

One quit because he wasn't getting enough PT... Two others were kicked off.

I stand by what I said, C so far. Effort? results? I said he was much better than the previous 2 coaches, thats all you get from me. If you stack up all the coaches in the state I could name over a hundred who I would take over him. I could name about 50 who he beats out in my book. I'm trying to defend him for goodness sake.

If I was Massie, I would say see ya, later Bourbon. Im sure he could find a nice asst. job somewhere make a few bucks and take it easy. Call Coach Ledford down at Franklin County I am sure he would take an X NFL player on staff.

It did not matter who took this job, Trinitys Coach, X's coach, or Highlands coach. They might have 1 or 2 more wins, but that is it. Programs that have been losing like Bourbon has can't be changed in 2-3 years. When Chuck Smith took over Boyle, it was years before he turned them into 5 time state champions. He did not win many games his first several years.

Those kids are now juniors and seniors and the past class of seniors. I also BELIEVE there was some turmoil surrounding The Hilton Era and teachers in the school system complaining about "their" compensation package. I wonder if the Board is gun shy when it comes to supporting the football program or sports in general for that matter.

As far back as I can remember the school there never cared anything about their football program, ask anyone that played pre-Hilton days. When Hilton was there he had a very supportive board and adm... but everyone knows the rest of that story....

What years did you play there?

I read a letter in today's Paris newspaper, and the person writing the letter called the coach out, pretty much, and said that the coaches argue amongst each other on the sideline, and wants the school to do something about it.

 

 

 

At Paris, back in the days, Homer Goins and Jim Shipp got into it nearly every game on the sidelines. That didn't bother us nor our fans, we just loved football and ndealt with it!

I played there under Wilson Sears and John Nochta during the Mid to late 80's and we had winning seasons 86,87,88 6-5 8-3 7-4

 

 

What years did you play there? Wilson Sears' last seaosn at Bourbon was 1984. Nochta came in 85 ... they didn't have a wiining season in 86 or 88 but they did have a winning season in 87 (7-4)
