Programs that have been losing like Bourbon has can't be changed in 2-3 years. When Chuck Smith took over Boyle, it was years before he turned them into 5 time state champions. He did not win many games his first several years.

 

Tell that to the Bourbon County Superintendent. She is so ready to have a winning season that she is not wanting to give Rick a few years to try and build a program.

It is hard to do that at most places. Not many coaches can walk into a program and say I want total control not only over the high school team but the middle school program as well. Chuck Smith got into a really good situation there that can't be duplicated at many places.

I am sure he is doing all he can, with what they are giving him. Instead of working closely with the middle school program, he needs to be in charge of it and who is the coach. That is the format in which Chuck Smith had at Boyle and what a coach needs so that he knows kids are getting coached the way they want.

What years did you play there? Wilson Sears' last seaosn at Bourbon was 1984. Nochta came in 85 ... they didn't have a wiining season in 86 or 88 but they did have a winning season in 87 (7-4)

I really don't have a "Colonel" is this fight on here, I just happen to live in the same town... So, I just want to ask... Since scheduling was brought up... Is it true that he is trying to schedule teams next year like Danville and Boyle Co. ?:confused:

At Paris, back in the days, Homer Goins and Jim Shipp got into it nearly every game on the sidelines. That didn't bother us nor our fans, we just loved football and ndealt with it!

 

I have no problem with it, I really don't care if they argue or spit on each other. I just stated what a disgruntled Bourbon County Fan Football Watcher stated, since this thread is about Bourbon Co. coaches.

And that's very true ... but Hilton had a lot more to work with than Massie and Bourbon's program wasn't as bad then as it was when Massie took over. Gruenisen didn't leave the cup bare with he departed and a few extra players on that team also helped.

I'm saying that sometimes people overlooked the truth ... yes maybe these kids can play the game of football but are they really that good. Show me who these kids beat as youths and in middle school. I'm just saying with what was left for Massie to work with, not even the best coaches out there would have Bourbon flying high right now! They lost their first four games this year and those teams were better and when you look at the rest of their schedule, they're not going to beat Franklin, Letcher County Central or Mason County because those teams are just better. They will, however, have a chance against Nicholas, Pendleton and Paris. When Randy Reese took over for Homer Goins, we didn't win right away either, I remember we lost our first four games and they were calling for Reese's job! They need to give the coaches a chance before they start blaming them for Bourbon's problems. Just as they did with Chuck Smith at Boyle County, a team Bourbon used to beat on a regular basis back in the days!

They need to take those youth programs and let them see how teams are on the other side and stop playing the same people over and over again that they know they can beat. The kids aren't getting better that way because they really don't know how good they are. We are seeing examples of that now.

I couldn't tell you anything about any of the kids there. I couldn't tell you who even coached them in middle school. But a school as big as BCHS and your typical "big ole strong farm boys" I am having a hard time with this knowing the size of guys I remember that played at BCHS... and now that these big ole farm boys aren't coming out anymore... Why? And I think that is a legit question.

I'm not going to place all blame on the coaches on here, but it makes me question their PR ability and chemistry they have or don't have with these kids. That is legit to think that too. Or is a combination of both; that and that kids just aren't into it like they used to be, or do they not like playing for that coach or are they emabressed getting stomped every game of the year? However yes if you love the game you play regardless, but you would have to see why different ones up there at The Hill are upset.

Just the whole thing has confused me since this was supposed to be their breakout year, and now people in town are talking about upperclassmen quitting, got kicked off (whatever really happened) - What happened? Why the blowup all of a sudden?

Haven't heard that one yet, but he is trying to work with Bracken, Lewis,and either East/West Carter. These are teams they scrimmage preseason and come away with wins. These are the teams to get on the schedule.
