October 2, 200818 yr Notre Dame is not a very good team. It's a shame such a bad team is being masked by a pathetic schedule. Didn't ND beat Michigan? And didn't Purdue beat Oregon a few weeks ago?
October 2, 200818 yr Didn't ND beat Michigan? And didn't Purdue beat Oregon a few weeks ago? Oregon beat Purdue, and yes, Notre Dame beat the worst team Michigan has fielded in as long as I can remember.
October 2, 200818 yr Purdue should be kicked out of the big ten after this showing and be forced to play as a 1-AA independent. As should Michigan, Ohio State, Illinios Wisconsin, Northwestern... Ok, you get my point.
October 2, 200818 yr Notre Dame is not a very good team. It's a shame such a bad team is being masked by a pathetic schedule. Whats Notre Dame's strength of schedule so far this year? I really don't know. However I would probably bet that so far their strength of schedule is a lot better than a lot of teams out there. Notre Dame is not a great team, but they are not a bad team like you seem to make them out to be. They this year are an above average football team, that will make some bowl game.

They have played one decent team thus far. That team beat them pretty easily . Michigan is terrible, Purdue might be worse, and San Diego State is flat out awful. They may be above average, but they haven't beaten anyone that leads me to believe that yet.

October 2, 200818 yr Didnt Michigan just beat #9 ranked Wisconsin last week? That doesn't mean they aren't terrible....It just shows you how pathetic the Big Ten is this year.
October 3, 200818 yr I want to see how they play on the road against North Carolina. IMO, they are an average team right now but a lot better then last year and they certainly are on the right track.

Honestly, as a ND fan, I will even admit SOS is less than spectacular this year, though I haven't seen the number. Not all their fault, as some of the stronger teams are down. But I think they have dumbed it down a little this year, maybe due to a young team. But I know the anti ND crowd has ALWAYS said ND plays a weak schedule. Even when they won their last championship in '88 it was said. Even though they did beat the #1,2, 3 and 5 teams at the times they played them, all by double digits. They were #4 BTW. So, I have become immune to the SOS argument, and the not playing in a league argument etc. Their schedule will pick up soon, with OU, UM, and USC on the schedule in a few years. Plus the bottom feeders like Stanford and NC are making a resurgence.
October 3, 200818 yr If ND goes 10-2 and wins a bowl game, they will finish the year in the top 10. Wouldnt it be something to see Notre Dame and Alabama back in the top 10. I'll feel like Im in high school again. Is Barry Switzer still at Oklahoma? That was a long time ago. A very, very, very long time ago.

W/ as bad as the team was last year, I'm just excited to see how much they've improved this year. Purdue is weak this year and Notre Dame did exactly what you are supposed to do against a bad team, and that is put them away. The Irish will be very inconsistent this year due to youth. However, Saturday showed what they were capable of. I for one am very excited about the next couple of years.
October 3, 200818 yr That was a long time ago. A very, very, very long time ago. Three years? Ancient history? In 2005, Alabama finished at #8 in the nation with a 10-2 record. Notre Dame was #9 with a 9-3 finish. (In the USA Today poll, 'Bama finished 8th and ND finished 11th.) So, if you want to argue that it wasn't consensus in both polls... ...you have to go back to '92 and '93. Alabama capped off a perfect season (13-0) by blasting the heavily favored Miami Hurricanes, 34-13, in the Sugar Bowl to claim their 12th, and final, national championship to date. Notre Dame trounced Texas A & M, 28-3, in the Cotton Bowl to finish 10-1-1 and rated #4 in the nation. I don't know how 1993 works...'Bama went 10-3 with a Gator Bowl victory. I'm not sure where they ended up in the rankings, but they later had to forfeit all but one game, so in the record books, they were 1-12. Notre Dame finished 11-1 and got shafted out of a national championship. They finished at #2.
October 5, 200818 yr Good schedule. Bad schedule. GO IRISH! I'm glad to see them doing well again and they will only get better!

All but one games during the season were double digits, that being the one. I agree with the rest. I hope to just get through this season, gain experience, win any bowl game, and look forward to the future. It's now 16 of 18 TD's scored by true FR and SO. Niiiiice. Clausen can certainly throw the bowl. Weis said his favorite pass he's made all season was the 3 yard pass to Allen, which he took for the TD. It shows that Clausen went through his checks instead of just throwing the longball like he's wanted to do all year.
