I agree he failed at Saddleback. However, Bill O'Reilly did ask him some tough questions and Obama handled himself pretty well. He never seemed to give a full answer, and often danced around it, but it was MUCH better for him than at Saddleback. He would not give any firm answers, and that was a big concern for me, but he at least did give some answers.

 

I know that many democrats are really attacking McCain as are many in the media, for pulling this 'stunt' or 'hail Mary'. However, Obama said something that was dead on accurate IMHO, ... this is the biggest financial crisis we have faced since the great depression and we need a solution soon or people will lose jobs, etc. I agree with him 110%. Then he said 'if you need me, call me.' That ticked me off. Why? Simple, ... if you want to be a leader, then lead, don't follow. If you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem and he was elected and is paid $175,000 per year by the taxpayers to make sure that the 'right' deal gets done that will actually fix this situation.

 

This 'stunt' could cost McCain the election. But at least he can sleep at night knowing that he did the right thing. We do need a solution, .... but just giving money to the same idiots who made the mess & to a corrupt organization like ACORN is an insult to the American people.

If he can keep failing like he has the past six months or so, then he should win pretty easy. Steam rolling all comers from the Dem. side and currently holding a lead which is growing, is far from failure.

WOW, this thread has really taken off. Where to start. Well, I voted for Bush in '04 and would've in '00. Both votes I am ok with, I honestly believe that Bush's presidency is much better than anything Al could have managed, this is based on everything Al has said and done in the last 8 years. I also feel the same way about Kerry compared to Bush. Like it has been stated on this board, in all honesty Bush has been dealt some tough cards and I for one think he has handled it pretty well. I think Bush went into Iraq with good intentions and with the knowledge he had. If Saddam would have allowed inspectors in, then we probably wouldn't be there right now. If a child won't show you what's in his hand, it generally means he has something. Finally, I honestly think when an ample period of evaluation has passed he will be looked upon favorably. And as far as calling him dumb, stupid, retarded, etc.; this is an Ivy League educated man we are talking about. He may have had family help getting in, but he did the school work and got the degree, that has to count for something.

 

Now, saying all of that there is a plethora of things that I don't agree with Bush on. For instance, the current bail out, I think it is a ridiculously bad idea. I could find many more things, but all in all he isn't awful in my book. And if I remember the elections correctly there wasn't a strong 3rd party candidate that I would rather have. I'm a very mild Bush supporter, but I do get tired of hearing some of the asinine comments said about him. I will add that I may be aided in my somewhat favorable view because he is almost on the way out.

 

As for this election. I truly hope something miraculous happens and Bob Barr gets elected. If that happens I know there are going to be some things I don't like about him (he isn't me, so of course we won't agree 100% of the time). As for the "other two", I prefer McCain, one of the main reasons is there will be a Democratic controlled congress that will put checks on him to make sure some stuff can't simply be passed. Are the things I don't like about McCain? Sure there is, for instance I am sure I wouldn't support his Supreme Court nominee's, at all. But congress can make sure none of the ultra-conservatives get through. With Obama the main thing is the ideas/policies that really worry/scare me about him, he will be able to get passed with a favorable and probably even more Democratic congress. Saying all that, whoever becomes President of the United States in November will be "my president" and I fully intend to support them. I may disagree and not look favorably on there presidency, but when it happens I would like to think I can start out being optimistic about there/our future until/if I'm proven wrong. But until the election happens, I plan to continue my plea that we don't elect Obama or McCain (in that order). Maybe the radical changes I would like in our system could even happen with one of the "other two" (I can dream can't I? :-D).

If you disagree with that, how can you possibly agree with the war in Iraq which was first dubbed "Operation Iraqi Freedom"? Supposedly we're over there to free that country from tyranny and to help them. Do you agree with this war that billions of tax dollars have been spent on?

I've read through some of this thread.

 

I supported George Bush in 2000. I was put out by Clinton's immoral activity.

 

When 9/11 happened I thought Bush did a great job of handling it. He did a good job of uniting this country and striking back. It's when the Iraq diversion/war occurred that Bush lost me. His arrogance and rush to create a second front was where the US seemed to loose the moral high ground with the world and many of our allies.

 

This is just my take and opinion. I have been far from wanting Bush to fail. Where he has failed I have felt he did so on his own mistakes and ego. Just my take. :thumb:

We need to forget about 9/11. It can't be an excuse for everything. I have done a lot of reading about the money that has been sent to Iraq and how it has failed. Katrina as well. I think the George W. Bush administration's biggest crime has been privatization and the security economy it has created.

I am fairly certain that I can say Bush is smarter/more intelligent than anyone that has a membership here. The moronic statements made about his intelligence level are very childish and extremely old.

I've accepted the fact that Obama is going to be our next president, BUT I can't wait for everyone to see that George Bush has saved this economy more than some people think. Regardless of what others will say Bush didn't cause the gas hikes and I can't wait for an Obama presidency to fail to solve the problem so people can stop pointing the finger. I also can't wait for taxes to go through the roof thus driving our economy even more in to the toilet. Those scud missiles he fired in the first war really had me nervous about an attack on the US. This is one of the main things I can't understand. George Bush was president when and before 9-11 took place and yet he has done such an outstanding job of protecting us, I just don't get it. Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11 and we've spent how many billions of dollars there? How many lives have been lost there? I agree the way he treated his people was horrible. He also would not allow the UN to search certain places for "weapons of mass destruction". If I suspected my son or daughter was smoking then smelt smoke and knocked on their door and they said "Don't come in!" then I think I would be a little suspicious, and then go in.
