Dixie - Bye week

If you go thru 2 a days and camp "before" the season starts you will learn as a player before the season starts that you must hydrate. This is much better than learning it the hard way during the season. :thumb:

Cramping comes from a lack of hydration/electrolytes. My son was cramping at the CovCath game and he does not drink carbonated beverages and drinks water constantly. He is also in very good shape. It was a very hot day and many Cov Cath players were cramping too. Does Cov Cath have 2 a days in the summer?

I know that the Dixie team did a lot more running and conditioning this summer than ever before.

Some teams do not have 2 a days because of the rule for contact on consecutive practices. Instead they have one practice for 4-5 hours with a small break, about 15-20 minutes in the middle.

So technically they are not having 2 a days.

Is this what Dixie is doing? Or are they having one 2 hour practice?

Dixie practiced from 7:30am until 11 or 11:30am during the summer which included lifting. This years practices seemed to last longer than in the past.

Nothing new here. This was pretty much the same time my son was at practice the four years he played at Dixie.

From the looks of most of the replies to this post people are wondering why when the talent is there, Dixie isn't producing. Practice questions, conditioning questions and overall just being prepared.

For this year's seniors no one can go back and change the way things were done over the summer to get ready for this year, but can anything be done so future teams benefit?

Coaching shake up? Change in practice/conditioning schedule? Overall morale boosts? There is a lot of talent coming up and it shouldn't go to waste.

Anybody know if Alex Koski is still with Morehead State? I did not see him listed on the 2008 roster.

I saw Alex at the Dixie Highlands game on Friday. I was wondering the same thing.

EVERYONE needs to remember the Dixie coaches are the same coaches who beat Trinity, Cov Cath AND Highlands a few years back. There was more player talent depth on the team then plain and simple.

There are some talented players at Dixie now, but not enough had Varsity playing time for this season and more players need to be trained. Several of this years starters were hurt last season and out either the entire season or half of it and missed that Varsity playing time.

Not saying that the coaches make perfect decisions during games all the time, but not realistic to think these coaches don't know what they're doing when they've coached how many kids over the past x number of years?

We need to have faith that Dixie will do much better the second half of the season, and be ready to win next season. (Dixie needs to not give up after playing the toughest teams of their schedule this year - two were state champs.)

There's no question that this team will get better as the year goes on. That's typical Dixie football, and usually typical of a young team. I don't think anyone is saying they won't. However, to get this program over the hump and competitive with Highlands and CovCath year-in and year-out, a change is needed. The resources are there to do it too. The team that beat Trinity had tremendous talent, and they should've been in the championship game that year, but they weren't. But really, how long are we going to hang our hats on the Trinity victory? There's no doubt that it was probably the biggest win in the programs history, and especially under Spritzky, but what have they done since? And Highlands, one victory in what, 30 years? The facilities are there, the open district is there (for now), the talent is there (not all on the team), and they need someone that can put this all together.

nees1212 you said a mouthful. Every year the Dixie fans know that they will lose their first 2 or 3 (this year 4) games & that they will improve. But should the boys, the students, parents & overall fans have to go through that? A change is needed and the powers that be need to see that it could do nothing but benefit everyone in the long run. Spritzky did a lot for the program for years but the time has come. Thank you for detailing it out so well!!!!

Tell me this how many times had Dixie beat Cov. Cath before Spritzky arrived and how many times after he arrived? Or tell me one program in NKY that is competitive with Highlands. I am not saying you shouldn't strive to be Highlands but no one in NKY has, look at Highlands track record in NKY they have lost to 2 different NKY schools since 1996.

BTW one of them was Dixie Heights.

If people want to be productive to HELP Dixie Heights you don't do that by going on message boards and bashing the coaches.

I think everyone has made their point and this is a good ending place.
