Violation by Team A as the ball has not gained frontcourt location. It is B's ball for a throw-in from the out-of-bounds spot closest to where A2 released the ball on the pass toward A3. Straight out of NFHS Case Book, 9.8 Situation A.

madman you are brilliant with the rules!

brilliant indeed!! I love these questions... keep em comin'.

Player A goes up for a shot , defender B goes up with A , Player A then intentionally throws the ball to an open spot while in the air. Player A then runs and retreives the ball. Is this travelling ? Recently had this happen and was told it was'nt .

Definitely traveling. When you leave the floor you have 2 options, pass or shoot, you cannot pass it to yourself or start a dribble after being airborne.

A1 inbounding the ball from the sideline foul near midcourt. A2 jumps from the front court, then catches the deflected pass, then lands in the backcourt.

Violation?

No. All three points (ball, both feet) have to already be established in the front court before going into the backcourt to be a violation.

That's fine when we're talking about a situation where there is team control. Is there team control or player control on a throw-in?

Let me change the scenario for you to fit your ruling: A1 is in his backcourt and passes the ball to A2. A2 jumps from his frontcourt, then catches the ball, then lands in the backcourt. Violation?

On a throw-in?

On a throw-in?

My fault. No, its not a throw-in. I was adding an example that is more applicable to the interpretation giving by pastmyprime.

Feel free to answer either scenario.

No.

No.

For clarification since I wasn't 100% clear, are you saying "no" assuming it was a throw-in or are you saying "no" to it being a pass from the backcourt to the frontcourt?

What happened to my rules brothers?

Hint on the questions at hand: the "3 points requirement" mentioned only applies to a dribbler.

A1 inbounding the ball from the sideline foul near midcourt. A2 jumps from the front court, then catches the deflected pass, then lands in the backcourt.

Violation?

If I understand you correctly, you are saying that A1 is awarded a throw-in near the division line. A1's throw-in is deflected by B1 and A2 jumps from Team A's frontcourt, catches the ball in the air and lands in the backcourt.

In this situation, it is a backcourt violation on Team A. The throw-in ends when it is legally touched by B1. A2 gains player and team control in the air after having left the floor from Team A's frontcourt, therefore having frontcourt status. As soon as A2 lands in the backcourt, he/she has committed a backcourt violation. The exception granted during a throw-in ends when the throw-in ends and is only for the player making the initial touch on the ball. See Rules/Case Book 9.9.1 and 9.9.3.

Thank you, Madman. As always, outstanding attention to details.
