Yup, I think we found our choice for relocation.

 

Heck, there's at least a dozen teams in MLB that fit that description. The thing is, when those teams do well, their stadiums are packed. And that's pretty much the case with any sport.

 

Again, Braves "fans" can't even be bothered to show up when the team's in first place in a pennant race or in the playoffs. I know of no other example that fits that description.

Memphis is, and perhaps by extension the northwest corner of the state. But I would imagine that most of it is Braves territory.

 

I guess my mind's still stuck in the way it was in the '60s and before, when you could draw a line splitting the deep south, where west of that line was Cardinals territory and east was Reds territory.

I lived in Missisippi for 10 years and still have family there. It's about 75% Braves, 20% Cubs, then some random Astros and Card fans.

It really kills me to see the Braves "fans" act like they do. They were spoiled in the 90's and have since not came to a game. It's pretty bad to see even when they were in the pennant races they wouldn't have any sell outs. And they wonder why payroll kept getting cut, it's because attendance was dropping by year.

 

It's just not a baseball town, or for that matter a pro sports town.

Based on what we discussed above in previous posts it never will be.... too many factors working against it here. BUT, the income potential will always be there enough to support any professional team.

 

I would have never understood it either until I actually moved down here and had some conversations with someone up the ladder with the Braves who is a close friend of our company.

 

But, to single out the Braves, like Jim Schue did, is unjustifiable when there are other markets across the country who have the same problem if not worse (Florida was still a factor in the NL East race when they had 600 fans show up for a game this year)

And you'd have an even worse team.

 

Chipper can still play and is good at what he does. Hudson will have to prove his health once he comes back but different pitchers react different ways to tommy john surgery.

There is no need to bring back Glavine. Hampton only matters if he comes cheap and is a sixth starter, someone that isn't counted on to make 30 starts a year.

 

Chipper is still an elite hitter. Hudson is a quality pitcher, although the Braves will get next to nothing from him next year. At this point, Smoltz has a better chance of staying healthy as a reliever, and he can still help the Braves win.

I haven't heard anyone mention Bobby Cox. Would the Braves do well to shake things up at the top? 20+ years as manager is pretty rare these days, especially when you haven't been real successful lately.

Bobby Cox will be there till he is ready to hang it up. He has already been extended for 09. I would say next season will probably be his last. Terry Pendleton is said to be the frontrunner for the job when it opens.

It cracks me up that the Braves, with the 4th worst record in the NL, have taken 2 of 3 from the Phillies and Mets, two teams that are desperate for wins. The series against the Phillies was in Philadelphia. You'd have thought they'd paste the DOA Braves. The Phils for their part swept the Braves in Atlanta last week, but the Mets in their series before that in New York dropped 2 of 3 to the Braves. That's 4 losses to a team that has been out of the race since July.
