September 17, 200818 yr So far, Rodgers..And I think throughout the season it will be Rodgers. Rodgers 2 Games 42/60 70 Completion % 506 Yards Passing 4 TD's 0 INT 117.8 QB Rating Favre 2 Games 33/48 68.8 Completion % 375 Yards 3 TD's 1 INT 104.1 QB Rating
September 17, 200818 yr I have no doubt it will be Rodgers. I've said for years he would step right in and do well, whenever that time came.
September 17, 200818 yr I think that they will both have pretty good years. IMO Favre will. Favre has the experience of what it takes to get through the whole year and this is Rodgers first year as a full starter. The lack of experience COULD hurt him in the long run.
September 17, 200818 yr I was highly upset with the playcalling the jets showed on the goal line. Once they figure things out Favre will be on track for a very successful year. Rodgers has also looked impressive, I'm glad to see them both doing well. Even though I like Favre better in the packers uni, i believe things have worked out well for both of these quarterbacks.

Agreed that the play-calling was vanilla. But was it just unimaginative play-calling, or was the fact that Favre hasn't learned the entire playbook yet the reason?
September 17, 200818 yr Rodgers looks very much like a young Farve. Since Rodgers is on a better team I would expect him to have better numbers.

I think the coaching staff had forgotten they have a QB that has thrown more TD's than anyone else. If they still had Pennington i would understand the play calling. It's just a matter of time before everything false into sync.
September 17, 200818 yr I think both will have a very sucsessful season with the team they are on. B. Favre is arguably the best QB to ever play the game, certainly one of a very few on that list. All one has to do is look at Favre's numbers and records/accomplishments to see that. On thing that I think that sometimes gets overlooked by people is that alot of those stats that Favre has were put up while playing on some pretty bad Packer teams. Brett Favre has a way of making something out of nothing. I would say that the longer this season goes on and the more work he gets with his recievers and the Jets team that it will be considered a sucsessful season. Aaron Rodgers has been in Green Bay for a few years learning under Favre and he was already familiar with the system, coaches and players. Rodgers imo is doing very well with the Packers and will continue to do so. A disadvantage Rodgers will have as far as who wil have the "better" season are the expectations in Green Bay vs. the expectations in NY for Favre. Rodgers imo will be a good QB and the biggest advantage that he has is the talent level around him vs. the talent on the Jets. Green Bay has "super bowl" type talent with a 13 win season last year, the NYJ's won 4 games last season and are getting used to alot of new additions and hoping to improve. Very different goals. I think that both will have sucsessful years considering all of the factors they are given but would be hard to judge as to has the better years bc of those same factors.

It gets overlooked because the Packers had already started to turn the corner by the time Favre took over for Majikowski, and have actually been a pretty good team the entire time he was there. Only once during Favre's tenure as GB starter did they finish with a losing record, and two other times they were 8-8. The 4-12 season was 2005 and one of the 8-8 years was 2006, when it was clear the overall talent on the roster had declined. You could fairly argue that Favre may have been the biggest difference in them being a good team and not just mediocre. But to say GB teams were "pretty bad" while he was there is a gross misstatement. Favre's career record would more closely resemble Archie Manning's if the rest of the franchise was as lacking in talent during Favre's tenure as you seem to be suggesting. I fully expect, in a few years, Cheeseheads will think less of Brett Favre as a god and more as "that boy from Mississippi who won us a Super Bowl back in the '90s." That's how good I think Rodgers can be.
September 17, 200818 yr I have no doubt it will be Rodgers. I've said for years he would step right in and do well, whenever that time came. I felt pretty good about Rodgers as well. I don't think he's going to play this good every week, but I'm with you...I expect him to be better than Favre this year. Rodgers is a talented guy who has sat on the bench for several years...high draft picks that sit that long, although rarities, usually fare pretty well.
September 17, 200818 yr Its too early to tell who will have the better season. The thing is Favre still is learning the system and developing cohesiveness with his team. Rodgers has been there for a while and had the whole off season to prepare. It would be fun to see the 2 teams go head to head, but highly unlikely (I believe, assuming they aren't on the schedule).

That's how good I think Rodgers can be. I agree with your post, except I don't think the talent was that bad then. I just think they were in the process of re-building the roster with young talent and it hadn't developed yet. I remember Favre saying during the 8-8 season that the Packers had as much talent as any he'd played on, but they were all so young he didn't know how they'd play. When it did start to come around, they played great down the stretch and then carried that over to a 13 win season and NFC Championship game appearance last season. That's why I believe Green Bay forced Favre to decided early about playing or not and once he didn't, there was no turning back. There's too much young talent on that roster to waste it by letting Favre flip-flop about playing. With Rodgers, this team is set to be an NFC power for the foreseeable future...had they let Favre come back and start, they likely lose Rodgers and end up wasting a Super Bowl roster trying to find a QB.
September 17, 200818 yr I assume most UofL fans on here are hoping it's Favre, because a good season by Rodgers means Brohm may never get a chance there. Bottomline is the Packers are a heck of a lot better of a team than the Jets, and for that reason alone, Rodgers will have the better season.
