I really like this team. If they can keep these young guys together and arms healthy, they should be able to contend in the central in the next year or two.

The pitching staff has potential. The lineup needs a lot of work.

The Reds have Phillips, Votto, Encarnacion and Bruce as building blocks. That leaves four positions (three of them up the middle) as complete mysteries.

I think you can add Dickerson to that list.

Sounds pretty close to a contender to me:lol:

From everything I've heard Castellini and company are going to spend a lot of money in free agency over the winter. The problem is, there isn't a lot out there unless they are planning on spending tons of money in the off season. It will be very interesting to see how Jocketty puts his mark on the ballclub.

I was discussing the potential FA's last night. I don't know who would add any value to this club that is going to be available in the offseason.

I think Dickerson has solidified a spot on the roster, and rightfully so.

Corey Patterson has 2 game winning hits (well, 1 game winning & 1 game clinching) in the last 2 games, so you know he'll be back.

What do we do with Jerry Hairston? I think we have to keep him around, as he's done nothing but produce when we can keep him healthy. Keep him around as a veteran with some speed and the ability to play multiple positions. We cannot rely on him to be an everyday player - no contender could.

Votto, Phillips, Keppinger, Edwin, Dickerson, Bruce & Hairston. Other than that, it's up for grabs. I'd like to see them keep Hanigan, but if we can get a decent catcher in FA then I'm all for it.

I'd LOVE it if we could make a push for Sabathia, although our pitching rotation is pretty much solidified. He's an absolute stud and he'd take the pressure off of everybody else.

I hope we move CoCo in the offseason.

I hope and pray that they don't go after Sabathia. Long term deals for big time free agent pitchers work out like 10% of the time. I think if nobody gets hurt the 5 they have now are a good starting point.

They better not bring Patterson back next year.

Reds win 3-0, on 3 solo HR's.

But he's on fire.

Who's your closer?

Am I the only one looking forward to seeing how the staff plays out next season, especially if Walt makes a move like everyone thinks he will?

Just imagine if he adds a quality starter. I don't know who, so don't ask. But for argument sake, let's say a #2 type guy. Add that to Harang, Voltron, Cueto, and Arroyo and you have the making of a quality staff.

Obviously there are several offensive questions to be answered in the offseason, but if Walt has some $ to spend, I for one am excited. After watching PETA Tony get his panties in a wad yesterday in the dugout when the Reds went yard 3 times in the inning, it got me a bit more enthused. That coupled with the fact that Aaron has been Aaron lately, Voltron, Cueto and the Whiffleball pitcher have all been getting it done, I am looking forward to seeing what Walt gets accomplished this Hotstove season.

Who's your closer?

Jared Burton? Maybe Bill Bray?

Or we could go get a set-up type of guy in FA and convert him to a closer.

From the current roster, I think you have to go with Burton.

The Reds won't be able to trade Cordero and his contract unless they agree to eat some of it.
