Whitley is 1-1. They beat Middlesboro pretty good their first game with almost 300 rushing yards and only 9 yards passing. Bell County (ranked #1 in 4A) thumped Whitley County 38-8 this past weekend even though total yardage was about even. Whitley did pass for 175 yards, but a lot of that may have been because they were losing the whole game trying to play catch-up. Whitley is a 5A school that only won 2 games last year (1 against us) with questionable calls resulting in a Whitley County win. They dress 48 players and have only 8 seniors, plus they have a 3+ hour drive to get to our place. We have some things in our favor: We are coming off a win, they are coming off a loss, we are at home and hopefully this is the last time that we will play Whitley County. Newport has nothing to lose in this game. Whitley may not pass early in the game and if that is the case, Newport needs to take advantage of it. Bellevue beat us with only 4 passing yards and Whitley beat Middlesboro with only 9 passing yards. Newport needs to play with pride and leave it all on the field.

I am excited about this game simply because I'll be going to it. I get to see some of my southern KY people come up here.

 

To the Whitley County fans, I want to first off all say I hope y'all have a safe trip up here and secondly, if y'all see a bigger guy wearing a "Rock" hat, then it'll be me. I fully intend to sit amongst the Whitley County faithful and cheer on the Colonels.

Bell did whip Whitley pretty good, this is the best Bell team I have seen in many years, going back to the early to mid 90's. That being said, Whitley still did some good things against Bell, and even with the long drive I look for the Colonels to rebound with a good effort.

 

As far as the passing goes, I think that will help the Colonels. Although they want to run the ball you now have to respect the ability of the Colonels to move the ball through the air. They have proven they can run the ball, and it will make it just that much tougher to defend the whole field against them.

Good point! I think it is newport, I believe that they are either a single A school or maybe a double A at best! And we already have seen what Whitley can do against a 2A:walk:

Looks like it should be a good game on a beautiful Class (AA) football field. Newport wins this one 27-20. Good luck both teams!!

I think that the difference in this game just may be that Whitley is a little farther along in their rebuilding process. I think although on the road Whitley should win this one.

For those Newport folks on here, what is the usual price for a ticket to a game at Newport Stadium? Also, what are some of the better concession items?

It'll be no more than 5 bucks for the ticket, might not be that much. Not sure as far as concessions, but probably just your normal concession food that most people have.

Whitley will have the big rebound after getting blown out by Bell. Whitley is a much bigger and stronger team and should dominate this game in every way.
