A Question For The BGP Women

Featured Replies

Sarah has run a state government. What has Obama run? Gov Palin entered elected office in 1992, five years prior to Barack Obama (Illinois State Senate 1997) and is the only candidate on either ticket with civilian government senior executive experience, six years as mayor, two years Commission Chair, two years as Gov.

Gov Palin has managed the largest, most expansive reserves of natural resources in the entire country while guiding the economic and regulatory agencies responsible for supporting the uninterrupted flow of energy resources to the continental US.

Well, let's look at this another way.

Obama's experience as a community organizer has allowed him to learn to do more with less (money), to galvanize people of different agendas toward a common goal, to seek out creative, out-of-the-box solutions to solve issues facing a particular crisis.

Sarah Palin just got her passport last year. The closest thing she has to foreign policy experience is the fact she lives close to Russia. Please please please don't defend Palin by attacking Biden or Obama on foreign policy.

That said, does anyone remember McCain is in this race? It seems to me lately that more has been made of Palin than McCain. Is this McCain/Palin or Palin/McCain?

I have heard several people mention that.

So? Who cares?

She and O do not have a pilot lesson does that mean she is not qualified to oversee the FAA?

What has he solved? What has he accomplished as a community organizer? What exactly is a community organizer? How does this transfer to experience to POTUS?

I'll post the link to the wikipedia explanation. I'm sure whatever I say to explain how this translates is going to be poo-poo'd, so I'll save myself the keystrokes.

So, in a sense it's like a social worker. Hardly comparative to a Mayor or Governor IMO.

You're right. Governor's and Mayor's don't have to get the community behind them to make something happen. They just need to get the elected officials. They don't ve to get people involved to make something happen for themselves (the people). In fact, they really don't have to interact with the "little" people at all, until it comes time to make sure they shake some hands to get re-elected.

Sarah is more like the "little people" when compared to Obama. You have admit that in the realm of experience community organizer doesn't compare to Mayor or Governor, therefore she's more experienced.

I would really like a Palin apologist to comment on the fact that Palin just got her first passport last year. Anyone? Anyone?

I guess I have become a Palin apologist, I will take a shot.

I will just say a few things:

1. McCain's strongest quality is foreign policy. His selection of Sarah Palin was not a move to try and increase the ticket's foreign policy.

2. Sarah Palin's strongest quality is the energy issue.

3. Palin was not a Senator or DC official- she was governor of Alaska. Her job did not entail and she was not expected to obtain extensive foreign policy experience while in office. Her doing so would have been wasting the money of the citizens of Alaska.

She is not like the idiot on the street who can't point out Europe on a map in terms of foreign experience. I am sure that she is informed on the topic. I won't argue that Sarah Palin is the supreme entity in terms of foreign policy experience. But does that make the McCain/Palin ticket incomplete? If McCain has one area in which he needs less advice and input then any other area, it is foreign policy. Her lack of extreme experience does not bother me.

She's like the little people in Alaska. I think even you'll have to agree that the little people in Alaska have different issues of priority than say, the little people in Harlem, the South Side of Chicago, Atlanta, Oakland, the West End of Louisville, etc.

I am totally confused by this post. Why would questioning Obama's lack of experience be absurd? In a campaign people must compare and contrast everything about the candidates. Candidates must not be examined in a vacum but how they compare to the other choices available.

Not if you're not going to vote for the other candidate either. Just saying that Obama is inexperienced as well doesn't do anything to justify Palin's inexperience.

So, you're bringing race into this? You don't have to be black to be poor. Why is a black poor more needing than a white, Hispanic or any other race?

I didn't bring race into it. If you knew anything about any of these areas you would realize that while some may be predominantly black, others have growing numbers of Hispanic, and that whites live in some.

You made an assumption...and incorrect assumption.

If listening to expert testimony imparted foreign policy expertise, then Biden would not have ridiculed Ronald Reagan's Cold War policies, he would not have advocated partitioning Iraq over the objections of Iraq's democratically elected government, and he would not have opposed the surge. Experience at being wrong is useful only if one learns from his mistakes. Joe is a little slow to catch on.

Iraq is partitioned. That's what the Sunni awakening was about, using the surge troops to enable the Sunni in the Western Province to help fight their enemies in the civil war as well as insergents. Iraq is segerated in 3 parts of the country now on their own accord except for Bagdad where there is a tribal mix due to the central government and support systems.

You brought up predominately black areas, RM. I assumed nothing.

I brought up inner city areas, areas with issues very different from small-town Alaska.
