September 6, 200818 yr I'm mixed on this. Yes, because I believe the family should be left out of it in the decision over Palin's fitness for the job. Even the best intentioned parent's children make mistakes. In the end, you can only raise them to the best of your ability, and try to instill the values you hold in them. But, they are people and will make their own mistakes regardless. No, because as a candidate who is put forth as an example of a higher standard of values, the campaign kind of opened the door. If the situation were reversed, and Obama had a daughter that was a pregnant teenager, the conservative media would be all over it, holding it up as an example of the failure of a liberal in instilling family values. If the situation were reversed, there would be no baby. Obama is on record stating that if one of his daughters made a mistake that he would not want them punished with a baby.

There's no way for you to purport this as a fact. What he said, and what would happen could be two very opposite facts.
September 6, 200818 yr There's no way for you to purport this as a fact. What he said, and what would happen could be two very opposite facts.Good point, Rockmom. Just because Obama said that he would not want his daughter punished with a baby does not mean that he would not change his mind or that her wishes might override his stated preference for an abortion should the circumstance actually arise. Obama's daughters may be pro-life for all I know.
September 6, 200818 yr There's no way for you to purport this as a fact. What he said, and what would happen could be two very opposite facts. Just like him doing the opposite of what he says now if he gets elected.......... Obama supporters pick and choose wayyy too much.
September 6, 200818 yr I think she's as qualified (if not more) as Obama. But your thread is about Palin individually, what does Obama's experience have to do with her?
September 6, 200818 yr Author But your thread is about Palin individually, what does Obama's experience have to do with her?I responded to RM, simple as that. Don't look to read more into than that.
September 6, 200818 yr I responded to RM, simple as that. Don't look to read more into than that. I'm just tired of the "Well, Obama doesn't have any experience either" argument I've been hearing a lot lately(not talking about you). I thinks it's absolutely absurd, it's make zero sense to me and I think it makes people look pretty childish and completely uninformed on the issue.
September 6, 200818 yr I think she's as qualified (if not more) as Obama. What's your opinion on the media treatment of her? The point of my post (and what I understood the topic to be) whether she were more qualified than Obama. It was whether she were the most qualified woman secondly, and person, firstly.
September 6, 200818 yr She is a very smart and couragous woman and I am proud that she could have something to do with government at the highest level. And yes the media has went way overboard with their opinions, but the media is to the left of things.

September 6, 200818 yr Author What do you mean?People looking pretty childish and completely uninformed about her experience.
September 6, 200818 yr People looking pretty childish and completely uninformed about her experience. I'm as informed as I can be with such short notice about her experience. AcesFull is about the only person in America I would consider fully informed about Ms. Palin. I've been doing my homework, Mr. RTS. I'm open to the proof that she was the right pick. I'm just not finding it, and it's less about experience at this point that her stand on issues. And, I admit, I'm still insulted by the admitted pandering.
September 6, 200818 yr People looking pretty childish and completely uninformed about her experience. Only when they argue blindly for her when they actually know nothing about her, which is where the Obama argument comes in.

How could her stance on issues make her a better fit for McCain's ticket? She appeals to the social and fiscal conservatives in the party, which McCain does not. What makes her a good match for McCain is the common ground that she shares as a reformer. I can honestly not think of anybody in the Republican Party who fits into both of those slots more snuggly than Palin. The notion that she was placed on the ticket mainly to appeal to disaffected Hillary supporters is just not right. McCain could not have won enough support among moderate Democrats and independents to offset the damage that he would have done by placing a Democrat or other pro-choice candidate on his ticket. After seeing Palin in action and also watching Pawlenty and Romney during the past week, I think most Republicans are very pleased with the selection. At least the attacks against Palin are coming from the media and Democrats. I was afraid that McCain would pick a running mate that would have precipitated similar attacks from Republicans.
