A lot of it inside McCreary came strictly from the coaching staff... more so, the head coach.

 

Many parents are upset with Waters (head coach) and rightfully so. Not so much that they lost, or that their kids didn't get to play, but some of the things that Waters would say to the players in practice regarding personal issues.

 

Outside of that, most of the players told me that Waters had no idea what he was doing and would just make a fool out of himself during practice and that they learned most of the plays (or what they had) from assistant Bartley, who was formerly on the mens side of the ball.

 

McCreary will have another tough season this year as they can't get prepared and be consistent. They're afraid to shoot and mess around until they turn it over.

 

From what I underrstand, the administration at McCreary Central and the board are up in arms about Waters. Waters will be gone next season unless somehow McCreary makes a marvelous season or run during the post season.

There is not a chance that she'll be better than Waters was.

 

I tend to agree but I haven't gotten much of an opportunity to see her play. Waters did go to EKU her freshman year and saw huge minutes. She has since transferred to Coastal Carolina and is sitting out this year because of the transfer.

Ok, came in here yesterday to read some comments and decided to check my sources. I did mention that I like to be factual before I say much. I do go to church with the Hammond family over in Berea(which is where I live) and decided to ask him about his daughter. So the following is straight from the "horses" mouth.

 

About the LCA move. He told me that he had checked into that because at the time his daughter had completed the 8th grade and the transfer rules don't apply until you're in high school. He said that he had lots of friends at the school, including the new Head Administrator and that the possibility of transferring was both academic and athletic. LCA was coming off the year in which they had won the sweet sixteen, but had only lost one player. With four returning starters it would have been a great opportunity for her to play her high school career at a more natural position. Any conflict that existed at Rockcastle was about her having to play the post in high school

I ask him about the article that was in the local paper about her being offered a scholarship at U of L. He told me that the assistant coach at U of L had seen her play along with head coach and talked with Coach Noble when they were at a camp there. The assistant coach told Coach Noble that they were very impressed and had a scholarship available for her.

 

He also said that a couple of weeks later the assitant e-mailed Coach Noble(Rockcastle) about asking his daughter to attend the UK-UofL football game as an unofficial visit. His daughter called in response, talked with one of the assitants and Coach Waltz and was told by Coach Waltz that they had a scholarship for her and that she was one of their top recruiting targets for 2011.

 

He told me that he and his family attended the game as guests of U of L and came away very impressed with coaching staff and new facilities that will be built for basketball. He said that Coach Waltz told him and his daughter that "she can really play" and they want her to be a cardinal.

 

He also said that she had not committed, that WKU had also offered. He told me(I already knew) that his older children both played sports at Western, one as a swimmer and the other on track and field scholarship and that at at academic banquet this past spring he met and talked with Western's Head coach and she told him they had a scholarship waiting for her and wanted her to be a hilltopper

He said that UK was also very interested, especially after inviting the Rowe girl to play there as a walk-on this fall and that his daughter was a big UK fan. He also said that an out-of-state school was now in the mix. Apparently his son dates a girl who played at Dupont Manual a few years ago and is good friends with one of her assistant coaches who now is an assitant at Duke. He said that his family were invited to attend the Duke @ WKU game in November.

So lets get this straight, Louisville has a official offer on the table. Western Kentucky has a official offer on the table. Kentucky has her high on the list. Duke is now in the mix to sign Hammond or they have her on the list also?

 

My question is this? If this is true, what has she not broke her arm to commit? Ask the "horse" that if you would. I like this kid. Im sure she is a outstanding athlete. I however have talked to some other people that know her game as well and got their opinion also. They agree with my assessment of her game at this point. They agree she has tremendous potential, but they question the drive like I do. Plus her outside game is not up to par as of this time. If you dont care, please tell the "horse" to have her work on these things. Or better yet, I will tell Christy, she is the coach.

Does anyone know if Brittany Morrow has been ruled eligable to play for Wayne Co.? I also heard there were two Monticello girls and a Cumberland Co. girl who tranferred too.

I heard that she was ruled eligible but that the AD and coaches from McCreary County were going to challenge it because they still have a residence in McCreary Co and maybe a member of her family still has a job in the school system at McCreary County. But I don't know for sure.

I'm not sure but I think her mom works at the board of education.

I think that's what I heard too and from what I heard she is still there even though they "had" to move to Wayne Co.

On Morrows elgibility,see my above post. Hearing at KHAAA this week. Any news on who is playing for McCreary this year? Vanover is a nice player not to play. Heard that she may be moving also.

I heard Eddie Bartley (who was the boys asst. for years and then girls jv/asst.) is very upset because he had been pushed out, of the girls program. From my understanding he was never given a reason and was contacted via e-mail. In my opinion he was the only coach they had, and a great one at that. He made a tremendous change in the jv team. It was rumored last year that some of the sophomore varsity players were begging to play jv, due to his coaching style. I saw him coach the boys a few years ago and I watched him a couple of times last season with the girls. He seemed to have all the qualities you would want for a coach discipline, respect, and knowledge of the game. Seems like a shame to get rid of him. Must be a lot of jealousy on the coaching staff or typical politcs, or maybe both. It would be a shame if Vanover didn't play or transferred. Shes a hard worker and a good ball player.

Dreamland. You must be really close to the program over there, what is it that you do? If you know coach Noble that well, you could have asked her.

 

I have never, and will never question a kids drive. Any kid that puts in the time they do to practice day after day, year after year has drive. As to the Hammond kid, I do know that she has done 3 or 4 sports on the high school level for 4 or 5 years. Reaching their potential has many factors, strength and maturity(which for girls usually happens after sophomore year); supporting cast; opportunity(so many good athletes play out of position in high school); coaching and of course how much that player does on his/her own.
