I have saw all the players play. The best post player is Mitchell. The second best is either Brown or Saylers. Pittman, Hammond are not true posts. I saw Hammond a few times last year and once in Louisville this summer and she was not impressive. Granted she has upside being 6' 2", but that only goes so far. Morrow I saw as a freshman and she has quite a bit of work to do. I think Saylers will be a good college player, but she needs to play in a slow down game to be sucessful. All have great futures ahead. Its the education that counts.

Good Comments. Mitchell is good having to play at East this year will be a big step for her. Salyers is better suited for a slower game much like Brown. For all of them to be successful at the next level strength and speed will be the numer one thing for them to work on I believe.

Listen I am not putting down any kid. I am just giving a opinion of talent. I agree that Hammonds is overated at this point. Lots look and my guess is that Louisville is gonna take a chance that her work ethic gets better. Saylers is a nice player, but I just think its gonna be hard to come in and play the 4 when you have never played it in your life, then to step in at a D1 program is just a stretch. Mitchell is solid, not great but solid. Morrow will get better and will benefit alot at Wayne. Pittman is young and will only get better. Brown needs to get stronger.

Hammonds will get better she is young. She has the potential to be the best the 12th region has ever seen. Dreamland should be a college scout He/She have everyones strenghs and weaknesses pegged.:banana:

See oldballcoach thats exactly what I said about Saylers, that she would be better in a much, much slower pace. At least you are now seeing it the way it really is. I knew you would come around.:ylsuper:

"Wasn't that impressive?" Interesting! "Overrated?" Again, interesting! Let me get this right, Heartbreaker you said you were in Louisville and saw the Hammond girl play and she wasn't impressive. If I get my stories straight, I think I can, it was in Louisville at the Run for the Roses tournament in July that Coach Waltz of U of L saw her play and within a day had offered a scholarship, not "a look". I was at that tournament and did see her play against the Central Kentucky Angels and one of the best AAU teams from Ohio. She not only held her own playing with such talent as the Mathis sisters, Alex Jones(E-town), Avery Jones(Manual) and against such playeras the Mitchell girl, Martin(LCA); she was arguably the best at her position at the tournament.

Are any of you aware that the Hammond kid is an all-state track and field athlete as well. She runs a sub 60 in the 400 meters and is one of the top high jumpers in the state. I've heard that just about as many schools are interested in her doing track at Division I also.

Let's see, now which person would you think might know a little more about evaluating a potential players talent, Dreamland? or Coach Waltz at U of L?

 

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe U of L won 26 games this year, nearly upset UConn in Big East Tournament final and made it to the NCAA sweet sixteen where they took top ranked NC to the very end; wound up being ranked #12 in the nation. Should be a top 10 pre-season this year. Just maybe, that guy at U of L, Jeff Waltz knows a thing or two about basketball.

I believe that some, like OldballCoach, might know a little more than others in here. Some of us have been around a lot longer, have "played", "coached" and "seen" a game or two more than some.

This is it for me on the subject. One thing we learn as we get older and wiser is that we don't have to "run" down someone to make the other person look better. Oldballcoach is right, lots of good talent in the 12th, let's just enjoy it and see who comes out on top.

 

Each of the young ladies that has been discussed are good girls, skilled at their sport, good students from what I've heard and good citizens. Each one will move on to wherever and make the 12th region proud.

I for one think you are getting a little bent out of shape over some others take on a player. There are lots of players that get offered that sign to high and sit the bench. Players are taken sometimes based on potential. I think thats all anyone is saying at this point bigimpact. I have saw Hammond play alot since she was in middle school. Im sure she is a great kid, but she sometimes disappears in the high school games(check the score book and you will see what I mean) and to play at the D1 level she will have to get much stronger. She is a really good player and I am in no way taking anything away from her. I think any college coach that is offering high school kids that early are just taking a huge chance.

 

Brown, Salyers and Pittman are all at this point as good as Hammond. All are great high school players, but that dont translate that they are all gonna be great college players.

How many sweet sixteens have Salyers, Brown, Morrow, Pittman been in? How many schools like UK, U of L, WKU have offered scholarships? If you know anything about basketball, box scores don't reveal all a player does to help a team win.

 

Let's see, just who won the 47th District last year? Which team won the 12th region? Which of those players have already been offered a scholarship to Louisville?

 

Of course, maybe you know MORE about basektball than Jeff Waltz, Mary Cowles, Matthew Mitchell, Jim Underwood, Charles Jones, to name a few.

 

What team is that you coach? Where did you play college basketball?

I think the name speaks for itsself, "DreamLand". Some of us actually live in reality.

I think we have gotten off on the wrong foot big impact. I just gave my opinion on certain players. I think overall that Brown and Saylers, at this point and time are better suited to the college game. Both are bigger and more physical. Morrow I have not seen enough to make a comment on, although she will have to work hard to even compete with any of the above players mentioned after being out so long. Pittman is only going to be a freshman and has a long way to go also. I am not saying Hammond is not a very good player, I am just saying that you think she is ready for the WNBA and you are not making a good showing responding to constructive criticism.

One other thing Big Impact that I have been meaning to ask you about. You said in a earlier post that the dad of Hammond had laid the groundwork to move her to Lexington Christian last year but that never happened? Why would they move her to LCA when Rock had such a good team? Problems or what?
