  1. The Hammond girl from Rockcastle is just a sophomore and has been offered scholarships to University of Louisville and Western Kentucky University. Word is that Purdue is interested and An assistant coach from Vanderbilt was coming to a practice.
  2. Well, one last comment. Go to http://www.kyprephoops.com/BolusRankings.html. I just went on there and the only girls listed from the 12th region on his listing of top college rising prospects form Kentucky are Hammond, Fothergill, Hellyer and Stearns.
  3. As to why she has not committed, I remember him saying that the only school that she "might" commit to early if offered was UK. I did talk to Mr. Hammond again today and pass along your comments. He told me that you are more than welcome to call him anytime, he gave me permission to pass along his number, 606.224.5365. So, I guess Dreamland, you can talk to the "horse" anytime you want. As for me I'm going to leave this subject alone for now. Other fish to catch and fry
  4. Dreamland. You must be really close to the program over there, what is it that you do? If you know coach Noble that well, you could have asked her. I have never, and will never question a kids drive. Any kid that puts in the time they do to practice day after day, year after year has drive. As to the Hammond kid, I do know that she has done 3 or 4 sports on the high school level for 4 or 5 years. Reaching their potential has many factors, strength and maturity(which for girls usually happens after sophomore year); supporting cast; opportunity(so many good athletes play out of position in high school); coaching and of course how much that player does on his/her own.
  5. He said that UK was also very interested, especially after inviting the Rowe girl to play there as a walk-on this fall and that his daughter was a big UK fan. He also said that an out-of-state school was now in the mix. Apparently his son dates a girl who played at Dupont Manual a few years ago and is good friends with one of her assistant coaches who now is an assitant at Duke. He said that his family were invited to attend the Duke @ WKU game in November. So, for what it's worth. These come from the "horses" mouth
  6. I ask him about the article that was in the local paper about her being offered a scholarship at U of L. He told me that the assistant coach at U of L had seen her play along with head coach and talked with Coach Noble when they were at a camp there. The assistant coach told Coach Noble that they were very impressed and had a scholarship available for her. He also said that a couple of weeks later the assitant e-mailed Coach Noble(Rockcastle) about asking his daughter to attend the UK-UofL football game as an unofficial visit. His daughter called in response, talked with one of the assitants and Coach Waltz and was told by Coach Waltz that they had a scholarship for her and that she was one of their top recruiting targets for 2011. He told me that he and his family attended the game as guests of U of L and came away very impressed with coaching staff and new facilities that will be built for basketball. He said that Coach Waltz told him and his daughter that "she can really play" and they want her to be a cardinal. He also said that she had not committed, that WKU had also offered. He told me(I already knew) that his older children both played sports at Western, one as a swimmer and the other on track and field scholarship and that at at academic banquet this past spring he met and talked with Western's Head coach and she told him they had a scholarship waiting for her and wanted her to be a hilltopper
  7. Ok, came in here yesterday to read some comments and decided to check my sources. I did mention that I like to be factual before I say much. I do go to church with the Hammond family over in Berea(which is where I live) and decided to ask him about his daughter. So the following is straight from the "horses" mouth. About the LCA move. He told me that he had checked into that because at the time his daughter had completed the 8th grade and the transfer rules don't apply until you're in high school. He said that he had lots of friends at the school, including the new Head Administrator and that the possibility of transferring was both academic and athletic. LCA was coming off the year in which they had won the sweet sixteen, but had only lost one player. With four returning starters it would have been a great opportunity for her to play her high school career at a more natural position. Any conflict that existed at Rockcastle was about her having to play the post in high school
  8. Correction-It's a good thing, for the Hammond girl and family if she chooses to go there, that Coach Waltz has NOT been listening to you.
  9. Just one last, quick, comment. Dreamland, you say that you know the game on the college level. And that there are lots of people who listen to your expertise. I guess, at least for the Hammond girl, it's a good thing that Coach Waltz has been listening. Don't you think it's a good thing for the 12th region to have one of it's better players to have been offered a scholarship from what has been and looks to continue one of the top 15 programs in the nation. It's the kind of thing that can only help others like Brown, Salyers, Morrow, Pittman and others.
  10. As to why the Hammond family had wanted her to go to LCA, I don't know. You need to ask them that. If you've been following all the comments, you'll also know that I have said on more than one that the Brown girl and Salyers were better post players, because they are bigger and stronger at this point. I believe the Salyer girl is a senior, which makes her 17 or 18 years of age and the Brown girl is a junior, about the same age. You are aware that the Hammond girl just turned 15 and by the time she will be their age who knows how she will stack up physically. I've had three children, 2 girls and know that between sophomore and senior year girls really mature and get much stronger. I believe Hammond will ONLY be a sophomore this year. I have said, more than once, that she will probably play at 6'2" a small forward in college. In the game I saw her play this summer in Louisville she look quite comfortable in that role, made 3 or 4 threes and I believe had 18 or 20 points. She also played with a 14 & Under group at that tournament with the Pittman girl and there was no comparison as to who was the better player
  11. I do not remember anyone, especially me, saying anything or evening mentioning about the WNBA? You'e really stretching it now. You simply did not respond to my last questions. How many sweet sixteens has Brown, Morrow, Pittman, Salyers been to? Of the the follow, Brown, Pittman, Salyers, Morrow, Mitchell, Hammond, which has already received a scholarship offer of the University of Louisville? We're not talking about the OVC, Summit, or any other Mid-major conference.
  12. I think the name speaks for itsself, "DreamLand". Some of us actually live in reality.
  13. How many sweet sixteens have Salyers, Brown, Morrow, Pittman been in? How many schools like UK, U of L, WKU have offered scholarships? If you know anything about basketball, box scores don't reveal all a player does to help a team win. Let's see, just who won the 47th District last year? Which team won the 12th region? Which of those players have already been offered a scholarship to Louisville? Of course, maybe you know MORE about basektball than Jeff Waltz, Mary Cowles, Matthew Mitchell, Jim Underwood, Charles Jones, to name a few. What team is that you coach? Where did you play college basketball?
  14. Ok, This is it for me on the subject. One thing we learn as we get older and wiser is that we don't have to "run" down someone to make the other person look better. Oldballcoach is right, lots of good talent in the 12th, let's just enjoy it and see who comes out on top. Each of the young ladies that has been discussed are good girls, skilled at their sport, good students from what I've heard and good citizens. Each one will move on to wherever and make the 12th region proud.
  15. I believe that some, like OldballCoach, might know a little more than others in here. Some of us have been around a lot longer, have "played", "coached" and "seen" a game or two more than some. I for one seldom comment unless I'm certain I know something about the subject, seen it first hand or heard it from a reliable, truthful source. Trust me, I have a VERY reliable source.
