As far as numbers go, and I think footballfan will agree with me, most of the young boys at Raceland and Russell grow up wanting to play football for Raceland and Russell. We don't have to go convince a freshman to play football, he wants to play already. Now, I know that not every boy in Raceland and Russell plays football, but a large number of the overall male enrollment does.

 

I think Ashland used to be more like that, and still is to a certain degree, but the numbers have dropped.

No doubt about it. JCHS is and should be ranked #1 until someone in the area proves otherwise.

 

For what it's worth, I think the super 7 looks pretty solid for the first week. Raceland or Russell at the 2 spot is a toss up. Both have excellent teams.

 

Fairview moving up one spot and Ashland down one spot is certainly debatable as well.

I understand what you are saying, but I would like to respond not only to your post, but to several others that I have read over the last several days.

 

I really do not see the size of the school having anything to do with it except in the playoffs. Raceland is not a typical 1A school, and with that being said, I think most fans would be surprised if they started watching an following 1A football around the state. I think 1A is probably the most competitive class in the state. I didn't say the best, so I don't want people responding that way. I said the most competitive.

 

Ask the Ashland players if the 5A teams they play, play harder then the Raceland and Pikeville. Ask any school above 1A if it is easier to play a 1A school then most of the bigger schools on their schedule.

 

It's not the size of the school in the football game, it is the size of the football game in the school.

I do not want to argue who should be 1st or last, but just to fuel this thread some more, why does anyone think that JC should be #1? Is it based on the size of the school? Russell throttled GC last Friday! And they are much larger than Russell! But like I said everyone has an opinion and I dont really think it is arguable! Now to get to my point, Russell and Raceland do not play JC or many of the teams JC plays if any! So how is it possible to ever get to #1 unless JC loses? And even if JC loses to a powerhouse team how could anyone justify taking there #1 spot away? My theory is that both Russell and Raceland return quite a bit of there talent from very good squads last year! And so far have not given anyone reason to think that they will not be VERY GOOD this year! JC lost some very talented players from a year ago, but based on there tradition, should be very good again this year! SO THEREFORE JC, Raceland, and Russell should be tied for the #1 ranking until something happens to separate them!:argue::argue::walk:

Thanks for sharing that information Scottiedog. Raceland's off season workout was great this year, a lot of players added a lot of strength.

I like your Oldrambler attitude! But never the less, There will always be a debate! So that is what most of us do here lol!!!!! It is a great forum for debate in 2008! It is a cyber debate where people cant hurt one another because they dont agree! It is entertainment! It is the only reason that this site even exist!(well not really) but it is really a major reason that those who actually post anything, use this site! If the super 7 were done correctly, it would be the Independent Super 7 in no particular order!! The best 7 teams in our area regardless of classification! not #1 #2 #3 etc. But man do I love FOOTBALL!!!

That's your opinion, and I respect it, but maybe Ashland should prove they can beat a single A team before they are ranked above a Boyd Co. team that is 1-0, and beat a AAA team.

Me too. We were both quoted. Maybe they will quote us for taking up for the poll this year. And, you are right, what are doing putting out a poll that everyone in the area agrees with, the nerve.

I think the Newspaper had it pretty good but then again....it's hard to go by the first week. Not much to compare to.

Johnson Central belongs at the top of this list. I think the list is about right.

 

But, Ashland could be last - or left off of it until we win, as far as I'm concerned. You have to earn respect.
