Good first game for the Black Bears. They didn't have an answer for their QB. He is a tough kid.

 

HC had the momentum going into halftime with a 25-20 lead but kind of came out flat to start the second half and the Cougars took advantage of it and scored 15 unanswered.

 

Overall a good showing. The kids didn't quit. There were some mistakes but not anything that can't be fixed. Coach Larkey and the coaching staff will get the ship righted and make us all proud.

Banks had an outstanding performance. Cornett#50 came up with some big D plays for the Cougars. Bears were a formidable opponent and will improve over the season.

 

Two dropped passses in the 4th hurt the Bears.

 

Good opener for both. Continued good luck for the remainder of the season.

Glad to see that L.C. was able to dig down deep and come away with a win.

Hats off to LCC. Young Charlie is the real deal. I was so proud of my bears tonight. They never gave up and had opportunity to win the game. Down by 3, 35-32, with about 3 minutes left and the ball in our hands. Dropped two well placed passes. Passes that WILL be caught later in the season. I think we proved ourselves tonight. We battled to the end with a very good Letcher County Central team. Best of luck to LCC the rest of the season. As for the rest of our schedule.......the Black Bear Nation is a force to be reckoned with.

AGREED! In the prediction post I made reference to the speed of GIlliam and Simmons. There were a couple of other bears I failed to mention. Didn't want to give up all the lowdown. Something I noticed was #8 for LCC had some speed himself. LCC QB is a manchild:thumb:

Very good game at Letcher Central tonight. Both teams played hard, and should have good seasons.

 

The Cougars outplayed the Black Bears in the second half. To me, it looked like the Harlan offensive and defensive lineman wore down as the game went on. Letcher ran the ball pretty well in the second half, compared to not having a whole lot of success in the first half.

 

Also, the Harlan defensive ends and secondary really hurt them tonight. The ends kept getting sucked in on the misdirection run plays, especially when the QB would keep the ball. The safeties let a lot of stuff behind them as well, and never made the big play that was needed. I think Harlan will bounce back with a big win over Lynn Camp next week, though.

 

As for Letcher, I thought the QB was impressive. He passed and rushed the ball well. He seemed to be a good leader. I also thought the LB #42 made some good plays on the defensive side of the ball. Letcher seemed to have a good coaching staff as well!

I think the the game was way too close then what it should have been. LCC is ranked 7 in the mountains and they had problems against a new school in their first game. (no disrespect to HC.) If LCC. doesn't pick it up, they could be in for a long season.

It's a new school, but they just didn't start playing football this year. I think they were pretty evenly matched.

It's still a new school, new coach's, new system, and new players that the other kids have never played with before. Even though they didn't start playing football this year..... all of that NEW stuff matters.

That was a great game. I'm glad to get that first game under our belt and move forward. Time to get ready for Lynn Camp!

 

Three Things:

1. We want a field and stadium as nice as LCC's!!

2. We need bleachers on both sides of the field!!!!!! (The lil "lady" sitting behind us didn't like having all those HCHS fans standing and cheering for our team when we were ahead. We are a vocal group!)

 

 

3. WE HAVE TO HAVE ONE OF THOSE JUMBOTRONS! Awesome.:thumb:

Our boys from Harlan County have no reason to put their heads down! This was an awesome game. I was very impressed, a few plays here and there and we could have won. Excellent facilities and exceptional mountain hospitality I look forward to traveling over to LCC every other year.

 

I think playing against that caliber of a QB will only make us better. We probably will not face anyone better than him.

 

Back to the waiting game until next week, but there will be some JV and Freshman games.

 

By the way the middle school team will play LCC middle this Thursday.

Not to jump ahead but did anyone notice the Johnson Central and Breathitt score, maybe the Bears could wind up with the 1 seed in the district.
