This will be the first ever football meeting between these two schools. Lincoln County is 3-7 in its own Death Valley Bowl.

 

The Patriots are being led by new head coach, Mike Settles. He replaced Larry French who moved to Boyle County.

 

Lincoln County is 21-5 over the past two seasons and was a 5A semi-finalist in 2007, losing to Highlands.

 

I don't think I have ever seen a Washington County football team. What can we expect from them?

It would be nice to see LC actually win this game this year. Even thought the past few seasons the opening loss has not had to much effect on the season.

 

I am excited to see what Settles and his regime will do. He seems to have assembled a nice coaching staff. Adding the ex-UofL star Bobby Leffew and ex-UK star Craig Yeast add some excitement to the program, even thought they are green when it comes to coaching they have some very good playing experience. Settles also added ex-off. co. Darren Yaden. He had some good years in LC, and he retained some important coaches off the past couple of teams. a big part os LC's season will be getting the lineman healthy.

 

Washington County likes to throw the ball, and spread it around. LC usually does a good job with these type of offenses. I like LC to win this game, and break the Death Valley Bowl jinx...

I don't think I have ever seen a Washington County football team. What can we expect from them?

 

Just speaking for last year, they were quick, but a little disappointing. When Garrard played them they were trying two quarterbacks and didn't seem very settled. Garrard was able to stop them pretty well. Defensively I was unimpressed. Turnovers cost the Lions the game in the final minutes....

 

With that being said, it's a new year. Supposedly they have ONE quarterback this year; he was the running QB from last year. But you just never know.

 

In my opinion, this game should be a win for Lincoln. The Pats never seem to win their opener, but they should be too much for Washington County. It probably won't be pretty, but I'll say:

I was a little disappointed last season. I really thought they were turning the corner, but the never seemed to gel and in fact were handled easily several times last year. Maybe this year will be different; but I don't think they should play too close with Lincoln.

LC lost a lot of players and are very young. They also have been without three important lineman, add that to the fact they never get off to a fast start and this game could be a close one.

Unless Jeff Smith and Larry Smith are suiting back up for the Commanders, I'd think Lincoln should win their Death Valley Bowl matchup.
