August 24, 200818 yr big blow to the Giants, likely out with ligament damage. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3551499
August 24, 200818 yr I hate the pre-season and I hate the Giants/Jets preseason game the most. Someone big usually goes down in that game. I think the Giants will be okay if they move Kiwanuka back to DE, or if they can talk Strahan out of retirement... Kiwi would be a good DE, obviously not as good as Umenyiora, but better than any other alternative they have right now other than Strahan.
August 24, 200818 yr Thats horrible. I finally start believing in them and draft their D and this is what I get.

August 25, 200818 yr Do you know something or is this just speculation (I was thinking the same thing when I heard he went own, but I hadn't heard anything or read anything on it)? Strahan is expecting a phone call but not sure what his answer will be
August 25, 200818 yr Do you know something or is this just speculation (I was thinking the same thing when I heard he went own, but I hadn't heard anything or read anything on it)? Michael Strahan's agent, Tony Agnone, said a few minutes ago that there have been no talks as of yet about his client coming back to the Giants to help ease the loss of Osi Umenyiora for the season. "I haven't heard from anybody on 92. As far as I'm concerned, he's working for Fox," said Agnone, who also represents Umenyiora. "If something comes into play, we'll talk about it. Until that point, anything else is speculation. ... Michael loves the Giants, as we all know, and I'm sure he's upset like every other Giant fan at the turn of events, whether that would mean he'll come back as an active player, we'd have to have a long discussion about that." 6:07 p.m. UPDATE Strahan has told NFL.com, "I haven't heard from anybody else so to say if I would or wouldn't is premature so I'm enjoying my retired life right now." LINK Sounds to me like Strahan would at least consider coming back.
August 25, 200818 yr Bob Glauber reported that he sent Strahan a text asking him about the situation. Strahan said, ..."I already heard the news and I've been asked the question, but no comment is my answer."
August 25, 200818 yr That's bad news. I like him and Tuck a lot. I think Mike will come back but I seriously question what kind of shape he would be in.
August 25, 200818 yr That's bad news. I like him and Tuck a lot. I think Mike will come back but I seriously question what kind of shape he would be in. There is really no way to expect him to be in game shape. Even last year when he was doing football related workouts in the off season it took him 2 or 3 games to get in to game shape. The good thing for the G-Men (if he does come back) is that their bye week is early in the year. He would probably be able to come in and play right away, but he wouldn't be the best Strahan until he got at least 2 games in. With that said, they need him right now and they should offer him no less than $8 million to come back.
August 25, 200818 yr 50-50 Osi is back by October? The Giants made it pretty clear in their announcement this afternoon that it won't happen. "Umenyiora To Miss Season With Torn Lateral Meniscus," was the headline and left no room for ambiguity. But we'll have a story in the paper tomorrow (and presumably online in a little while) in which a leading orthopedic surgeon says that if it is just a torn meniscus and there is no other unrevealed ligament damage, there is a better than 50 percent chance that Umenyiora would be ready to play inside a month. That's right. Better than 50 percent it goes from four months to four weeks of recovery. Why? It depends on the procedure that will take place on Tuesday morning. If the surgeon repairs the meniscus, as is planned, it will take the four months to heal, including the first six weeks on crutches without putting any weight on the knee. But according to Dr. Craig Levitz, the director of the South Nassau center for cartilage repair as well as the chairman of orthopaedic surgery and the chief of sports medicine and our source on flat feet, more than half the time surgeons go in thinking they can repair a meniscus based on an MRI only to find it unrpairable. In that case part of the meniscus is removed and the recovery time shrinks to 3-4 weeks. “If they don’t repair it (and remove it), there is no reason he should miss more than a month,” Levitz said. Good news, especially considering that the Giants are unlikely to file the injured reserve paperwork with the league until Tuesday afternoon (after the surgery!) when they cut their roster from 80 to 75. The Giants will probably put Osi on IR no matter how the surgery goes. But I just wanted to put out that sliver of hope. There's more in the actual article. I don't want to spoil it now, but I'll link to the full story when it goes up. LINK
August 25, 200818 yr Big blow to the G-Men but not as big as what it could be to other teams. The Giants used a system of sending in a lot of fresh bodies to keep their D-Line fresh, and it was productive. Because of that now, instead of having to start someone without much game experience, you still get to play someone who has a lot of minutes in big games. Of course it takes away the subbing in-out, to keep their d-line fresh, but like I said, still better than having to play someone without any experience. Tough blow for the Giants, I hate to see this happen to them. Even being a rival team of my beloved Cowboys I'd take the satisfaction of winning or losing to a team at full strength than a win over a team not at full strength any day. In my honest opinion though I wasn't looking for the Giants to do anything that special this season anyway. I had forecasted around a 9-7, 10-6 record a trip to the playoffs, and thats about it, but for those who had real high hopes that since they got hot when it mattered last year that they would come off and roll everybody, this may now get their predictions closer to mine. But at least there will be an excuse now for underachieving, since many I'm sure are expecting them to do much more than what I expect them to do.
