So is UK going to own the new basketball arena or what?

 

From reading some of the posts, it sounds like UL may.

Not to name drop, but I spoke to Mitch Barnhart tonight. Among the things he said:

 

• He called it a feasibility study only.
  
• They are committed to keeping the new Rupp downtown.
  
• IMG College, based in Lexington and run by a UK grad, would oversee the project. This would be their first project involving college facilities. IMG has overseen improvements at Wembley Stadium in London, a 90,000 seat cricket stadium in India, and two pro venues in the U.S., Barnhart said.
  
• Current coaches will have some input on the designs
  
• In a perfect world, he would like to have Commonwealth done by 2011, the new baseball stadium done by 2010, and the new Rupp done by 2013-14.
  
• He said everything behind the bleachers at Commonwealth would be gutted with new concourses, concession stands, restrooms, etc.
  
• The softball team would move to Cliff Hagen Stadium and the UK soccer team would move to the softball field. The track would be redone also.

Barnhart said there could also be another annoucement coming in a few weeks concerning another TV deal for the SEC. He wasn't specific but said it was "major" and would nicely compliment the 15-year deal from CBS.

I just saw on ESPN that they reached a 15 year deal w/ the SEC to cover a lot of men's and women's sporting events and championships.

The deal is worth a staggering 2.25 billion dollars over 15 years.

Whatever the new Louisville arena is, +1.

Each school could garner up to 15 mil a year because of this contract.

What it does do, is kill the relationships with Raycom.

You will likely see many of the old Raycom games on ESPNU, which is negotiating with Cocast tobe picked-up by them.

Maybe I'm wrong but when is see that the SEC will be on ESPN as opposed to Raycom I think more games broadcast in HDTV. What's not to like.
