Ashland Tomcat "Top Secret"?

Featured Replies

Anyone in NE KY care to share their info on the 2008 Tomcats? I know that a lot of lineman and some skill positions have returned, but losing Matt Thomas and some others can take its toll. With all the tradition and talent in the system, I can't imagine Tomcat Nation to say that all we have is a lot of players back from a 2-8 campaign, so we should expect more of the same. If that were true, I believe there would be a major shake up in the coaching staff. So, if anyone would like to step to the plate and give their opinion, I'd love to hear it.

I think Ashland is going to be a lot better then most people think. They return the entire OL, they have a quality TE in Bonner, they return their QB, Royalty. This is where it get somewhat fuzzy. Do they have a RB, Carter maybe. No one will say. Some Ashland fans say he is there, others say they have not seen him, still others say that he has transferred to Ironton.

Sam Hunter was giving Royalty a run for his money at QB until Hunter broke a finger on his throwing hand. Hunter may still see time on defense.

Ashland returns a lot on defense, and their secondary will be very strong. Any team wishing to pass a lot had better be ready.

The Ashland fans have been avoiding answering many questions about their team so far, so I doubt we will hear much from them in this thread, unless they show up to sandbag us.

I talked to some at church last night who stated he had been to several practices. He said Carter has been there, but he is hurt, and hasn't been practicing.

This thread is hilarious. You mean to tell me that you’re not satisfied with (or sufficiently distracted by) all the drama that we’ve provided this year? I mean really, what more could you want?? :D

I’d feel real sorry for y’all if it wasn’t for the fact that you had a bunch of coaches scouting at our scrimmage Saturday. I think y’all are getting all the information that you need.

But, we’ll be scrimmaging right out in the open again this Friday (see our scrimmage thread for details). You won’t even have to drive far to see it.

I am sorry, I'm new to the site and haven't had time to skim through a lot of threads. I will not be at your scrimmage due to a scheduling conflict- grid vs Morgan Co. ha ha. To be honest with you, I am so excited and worried at the same time about next week. If there is no more direct contact, good luck to the Tomcats and lets pray for no serious injuries to either team.

I can only speak for myself, Ram...but from my perspective, this year's group of Tomcats has far more question marks hanging over their heads than they do answers. So, I don’t believe there is any reasoning for our collective "silence" other than we, as Ashland fans, are pondering many of the same questions that our horned friends are.

Raceland is on the threshold of an outstanding and possibly record breaking season…I sincerely wish you guys the best of luck in fulfilling that likely probability. I hope the Tomcats can make the game respectable, but the honest truth is you all are way ahead of Ashland in many areas…only time will actually tell how large this gap is.

So….no sandbagging here…Raceland is in a position to do what at one time I thought would have been impossible: Beat the Tomcats three straight years on their home turf.

Here are my feelings on the Tomcats..........

1. They are going to be FAR better than a lot of people expect, this coming from a good friend of mine who has talked to people VERY close to the team.

2. I am personally having fun with the talk/non talk or whatever. My feelings and jmo is that there may be a self imposed "gag" order and silence from the Ashland fans. That s fine and I am certainly not putting them down for it........Touche'

3. The game is on Aug. 29th at Ashland's Putnam Stadium. I am pretty sure that Raceland will show up as well as Ashland so imo that would rule out forfiet on either side.

4. I believe that both teams will play hard in the season opener and may both teams stay injury free, not only in this game but for the entire season.

Good luck to the Tomcats starting on Aug.30. ;) and GO RAMS!

Graybeard and Painter, thanks for your thoughts, I appreciate the complements about Raceland, and hope that Ashaland has a great season.

My thoughts:

1. Ashland is going to much better then most, non Ashland, fans believe and will surprise many.

2. I expect Ashland to pass more this year, and Bonner will be a big weapon for the Tomcat offense.

3. I expect Ashland's OL/DL to be a strong point, they are big, athletic, and now are experienced. They will be a force to deal with.

4. Raceland may very well be the fovorite in this game, but if Raceland doesn't show up mentally, they will go home 0-1.

The game is on Aug. 29th at Ashland's Putnam Stadium.

If it rains it may be August 30th at Putnam Stadium! :jump: I kid I kid!

The word in Johnson County is that Ashland has another RB in the background that is supposed to be a Sophomore, from out of state(Ohio I think), and is as good as Carter. Any truth to this? If so, hopefully that will help the blow of losing Carter if he doesnt get to play. If Carter does, then should be a good Tandem pair of Runners.

Ashland is Ashland, they will do fine and have a winning season. Last year was a record fluke and will not happen again this year. I also believe they have a change to Beat Raceland on Opening Night.

Now, now Red Rambler...you KNOW the Tomcats play in the rain...we just bring out the good ol' mud cleats. (just kidding too)
