Ashland and Mason Co. will scrimmage Friday, August 22nd, 7:30 p.m. at Putnam. I hear that this one is supposed to be played in a game format.

 

I expect that Mason is very talented this year and will pass a lot. This should be a great test of the Tomcats and help us get ready for Raceland the following week.

Welcome to bgp justsaying and I would say that it is a ittle early to get any info on this one if the scrimmage didn't start untill 7 or 7:30.

I was checking the thread bc I wasn't sure what time they started and was waiting on info from Raceland's scrimmage/grid-o-rama tonight. Anyway, welcome to bgp.:thumb:

Ashland varsity won 26-7 in the first three quarters. They only had to punt once, which I found very impressive.=, and they scored on their first 4 possessions. The O-Line was dominant, and the game was really never in question for the Tomcats. Drew Royalty went either 5-6 or 6-7 with a touchdown pass to Bonner. Good luck to Mason throughout the year!

It was hard to judge, I don't want to bash teams to hard because I know how hard the kids work. But Mason Co. will struggle to finish second in the district.

Ashland looked decent, going to be a straight up the middle team it appears.

I agree TCfan – the O-line was impressive tonight in dominating the line of scrimmage. I guess the ripping that they received this week woke them from their slumber. They worked well as a unit. This is the kind of performance that I expected from them.

 

The running backs did a nice job by committee. Carter did not play (before anyone asks) – and he was not needed. We are very deep in the running back position.

 

Royalty looked poised tonight - definitely on. The O-line provided good protection and he made use of it.

 

The defense was sharp especially in the first half. The DE’s (Burns, Hush and Hardy) kept a lot of pressure on Mason’s QB. Hardy (#82 and a soph.) had some very big sticks. I’d say they were worthy of the “Bad Cat” designation. Trent Hardy is going to be a good one - watch for his name.

 

Sam Hunter got to play in the 4th quarter. I did not expect to see him back so soon. It was a pleasant surprise.

 

The Royals are going to be good this year. Their passing game just needs a little bit more polish. I wish them all the best this season.

Graybeard and Painter, thanks for your thoughts, I appreciate the complements about Raceland, and hope that Ashaland has a great season.

 

My thoughts:

1. Ashland is going to much better then most, non Ashland, fans believe and will surprise many.

 

2. I expect Ashland to pass more this year, and Bonner will be a big weapon for the Tomcat offense.

 

3. I expect Ashland's OL/DL to be a strong point, they are big, athletic, and now are experienced. They will be a force to deal with.

 

4. Raceland may very well be the fovorite in this game, but if Raceland doesn't show up mentally, they will go home 0-1.

Off topic but Ashland fans just how good is Campbell County?
