Why is it America's place to send aid to Georgia?

Featured Replies

We are looking at the largest deficit in the history of our country and we are about to send a billion dollars of aid to another country. I listen to people on this forum raise three kinds of cain about us helping our own people, so how about this.

Its an investment in an ally and a budding democracy right on the doorstep of our biggest rival.

You can call is politics or whatever, we send money and medical support because we are " AMERICANS ". A lot of people give our nation a lot of grief, yet this world would be in a lot worse shape if it did not have the USA serving as the mother of all give aways. I echo your concerns, we cant be everything to everyone, we have to start taking care of our own people.....

What people are you specifically referring to, Pigman?

(I mean needing help, not raising cain.)

Why?

Because we're Christians. :D

LOL :laugh::laugh::laugh: If America is Christian, then we are really picky on when we show it.

Georgia has a lot of oil and natural gas reserves and contracts with Kazakstahn. Plus, I heard Dick Cheney quali hunts there. Geez, you liberals are getting slow.

Name another country that takes care of other countries like we do. It's the Christian thing to do. :thumb:

I have to disagree. There are plenty of other countries in which Christianity is the dominate religion, yet they don't provide the same percentage of assistance that we do.

Or perhaps, what percentage of the money we use to assist other countries is done out of morality or altruism? Pepper II has it right, more or less.

America does not give aid purely out of morality and altruism....America gives aid in the hopes to win over allies and friends to the cause of Democracy and Americanization of the world.

Not a bad plan though.

One could make the argument that spreading Democracy is altruistic.

One could make the argument that we should let the natural development of social and political ideas take places in countries. Sorta the Prime Directive translated in American Foreign Policy.
