Well I'm not sure I'd try that on a sandwich, but imo, democratic socialism is just another word for hidden capitlist economy. China doesn't call their economy a capitalist economy, but does that mean it isn't.

Your opinion would be wrong here. Capitalism does not support government regulation of the economy or industries. While there are not as many regulations as in a communist economy, Socialism does regulate to some degree. So therefor a Democratic Socialist Government cannot be a hidden capitalist economy, because there definitions contradict each other.

We borrow more money to help other countries to help our credit score. It's the American way. If Georgia would take Visa, we'd use that so we could build up our points/frequent flier miles at the same time.

Its an investment in an ally and a budding democracy right on the doorstep of our biggest rival.

I don't mind aiding people who actually need it, however I'm sick and tired of giving hand outs to people that want to "work the system" and live in better houses than other people I know, with less stress, just because they have no pride in themselves. There are people in this country that continue to not get the help they need while others abuse the system. I've seen it first hand and it disgusts me. If we ever decide to actually punish people we find to be abusing our American aid I'd love to help out with their punishments. They disgust me.

I have to disagree. There are plenty of other countries in which Christianity is the dominate religion, yet they don't provide the same percentage of assistance that we do.

 

Actually there are several other wealthy nations that provide a larger percentage than the US. However that percentage doesn't equal nearly as much as what we send.

I have an idea to solve this issue: each taxpayer every year gets to earmark specifically where and on what programs his/her paid taxes are permitted to be spent by the federal govt. You don't like your taxes going to Georgia for aid, but would rather they be spent on whatever you want to support, so be it. Boy, I think the nature of the federal govt.'s programs would change dramatically if we did this as well as would the composition of the Congress.

You're absolutely right, I misworded it. I should have said a successful democratic socialist government has a hidden capitalist economy.

He is saying that Americans in general have been "given much" to. Obviously, since you are not starving and can afford luxuries such as BGP, then you have been blessed with a bountiful life. As the verse says, anyone whom has been given much, will be required much of as well. Some argue that, since we as Americans have been given much, it is our duty to help the Georgians. If you are arguing that you have not been given much, then SF41 feels sorry for you.
