My concern for the program is deeper than this, but I'll make this statement and simply read from here on out, but if '09 is supposed to be the year that they compete at a varsity level and they for some reason are not able, then it would be 2011 before they could ask to participate. And if that in fact becomes the case, I hate that the freshman class would only play one year of varsity football and alot of quality kids would be simply one and done. I hope that this doesn't happen, but if Coach Ross left for lack of participation, things don't look very bright on that front. I wish everyone involved the best.

I hate it for the boys and for coach Ross. They had a terrific middle school team. They pounded Russell as 7th graders, with many 6th graders playing. They pounded Ashland as 7th graders and 8th graders. Couldn't find many KY teams locally to play them and had to go to WV to get games. Seems like they'll struggle to answer the bell as a high school program.

I am glad to hear that health was not the reason for Coach Ross's decision. I certainly hope that it wasn't and wish him nothing but the best. Also, thanks to all that are certainly more "in the know" than I am on this for the information. Good luck to RH.

Nope, from what I was told it was because only a few people showed up for practice.

I thought that according to the thread this spring and summer that Rose Hill was going to play a freshman and junior varsity schedule this season and then move to varsity next year. So, if no jv schedule this year, are they planning on jumping in with all sophomores into the same district with LCA and Raceland to get their feet wet?

 

That deserves a big, old, WOW! I hope for the kids sake there that they manage to play some sort of schedule and upgrade the situation there for the season or seasons ahead. But I'll guess that the fact that the new coach jumped ship, especially if it's due to lack of players, that this is the death of the fledgling football program.

Pounded is such a strong word for a small school. Maybe they should have travel a bit more South down 23 to get some games. I am sure they would have gotten all the competition they could handle.:thumb:

 

Some local counties down South on 23 used to play against all these kids in Youth Leagues and didnt seem to have much problem with them then.

I too hope the best for Coach Ross, but not sure he knew what he was getting into when he took the RH Job. I think he felt a little bit overwhelmed here at JC, but I am sure he is really overwhelmed there. With that said, it would still take a mighty obstacle for Coach Ross to just step away this quick. I guess only time will tell to what the real truth is, and I am going to guess it isnt Health Reasons.

Coach Ross was well aware of what the obstacles were going to be at Rose Hill. He didn't expect a large team this season, he just expected to field a team and get the program started. And, in all honesty, he didn't expect to be real competitive for several years. He knew the process would be slow and take a good deal of effort to start a program from the ground up and he took the challenge as a labor of love. I hate it that it did not work out, I am sure he will find another area that he is needed and perform at the best of his ability.

Well said Ram :thumb:, Bill Tom loves the game of football and working with the kids. He certainly as nothing to prove to anyone as far a coaching ability, he has proven that over and over through the years.

So will Rose Hill at least play a freshman schedule and then hope for numbers next season.

They still have some great talent in the freshman class such as Busch and Whetsel.
