Trinity/Scott County Scrimmage

Featured Replies

Game starts at 7:00. I'm anxious to see the 2008 team in action. "GO ROCKS"

I'm there... w/ old #55.

He was fun to watch. I'll never forget that tackle. What a player.

I'll be there and am really looking forward to it. Synchronized male diving (Olympics) is just not the same as football (the American version). Good luck to both squads and I hope the scrimmage proves beneficial to both.

Can someone give us a full report?

I left after 3rd Q. T was up 29-6. What a crowd for a scrimmage! Defense looked good, offense even better. Scott County has one heck of a kicker... he booted a 50 and 44 yard FG.Determination award to Xavier Thomas for some powerful running. Hope the injury bug didn't bite us too hard.

Trinity 29 / S.C. 6 at end of 3 quarters. Then controlled plays. Rocks took opening kickoff and scored quickly. Scored again in 1st quarter. SC kicked a 50 yard field goal, 14 / 3 end of 1st. Rocks score 2 more times in second quarter. T29/SC 3 at half. Rocks play third quarter with reserves except for a few players. SC kicks another field goal in 3rd. T29 / SC 6.

My thoughts. Cam Smyth was very impressive. Right on target all night and arm much stronger than I thought it would be. I feel much better about the QB position. Tim Philips looked great although he did not get many touches. Whiting was a beast on D and had one bone crunching tackle in particular. I give the team a "B". Lots of work to do but overall a good showing. SC had some nice players but just looked to be overmatched. JMHO.

Big crowd. Scott Cnty. has a nice team. Their QB is a good player. Their PK is very, very good---college material. T looked pretty good and executed well for this time of year. T's QB looked very good, I thought, as did back-up, sophomore Kragthorpe. It seemed that at various stages of the scrimmage, T would concentrate on running and at other times on passing. I don't believe they mixed the two as effectively as they will later on. T's receivers were sure-handed but I did not notice any real burners, but I don't know if Radcliff (sp) played. (The jersey numbers were mixed up some.) I thought T got some good play from some of their outside players on defense. T has begun the process of developing a good team. It will, of course, take time.

Do you know of any injuries?

QB & D looked impressive. Overall a good first outing.

Think we do have to give credit to Scott Co. for their willingness (year after year) to kick off the season with this scrimmage. They seem to have a group of nice young men & team.

No. 2 for Trinity was on crutches. Sorry, I don't know who he is.

Robert Melillo injured his lower leg on the first play after making a very nice run after catch. Not sure of the extent. Will Leach also hobbled but not sure of the injury. Defense was impressive at times and out of position on others against the wing T. No real concern since Trinity won't see the wing T this year and probably had not practiced against it. Physically I thought Trinity was impressive. The line play on both sides appears solid and the running game will be very good. Cam Smyth was terrific as was Kragthorpe. Lots of talent at all positions and excellent coaching will make it difficult to beat the Rocks this year.

Scott Co. played very physical, especially in the third quarter. I liked their team and they should win a lot of games. Their running game is very good and with more practice their passing game will be very effective.

Good luck to Scott, not many schools are willing to travel to T and lose pretty much year in and out. Very good team once again and it does not hurt to practice with the champs.

I also thanked several of the SC parents and fans for making the drive. Every one of them said that they look forward to the trip every year. They like playing at one of the best high school venues in the state, and lacing them up against the #1 program in the state. I agreed with them. They obviously know their football.
